Battlefront Beta, Galaxy of Heroes Mobile Game Details Announced

Battlefront BetaThirsty for a taste of Battlefront’s next-gen action? A public beta will be coming in October across current-gen consoles and PC, so get your blasters ready to see if it’ll be worth 60 bucks to you in November. Also announced recently were new details about the mobile game, Galaxy of Heroes, which you’ll probably play to pass the time between Battlefront matches and waiting for The Force Awakens in the theater lines. More details for both below.

There are more details to come for the Battlefront beta, including the most important one: when exactly in October it goes live; In the meantime, here’s what will be available during the beta:

Coming early October to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on Origin for PC, the Star Wars Battlefront Beta is a technical test and will feature Walker Assault on Hoth, a 40-player multiplayer battle featuring Rebels and the Empire. Walker Assault will also give you the chance to play as two of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars™ universe: Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. The Beta will also feature our Survival Mission on Tatooine, where you and a Rebel friend must fight back waves of Imperial forces.

In addition to those two modes, we are excited to reveal a brand-new mode that will be available in the Beta, Drop Zone. We’ll be sharing more details on Drop Zone in the weeks ahead.

Would’ve liked a chance at the Fighter Squadron mode, but hey this is a good way to know if you’ll want Battlefront immediately on November 17 or if you can wait to grab on sale several months later.

Galaxy of Heroes was announced back at E3 and now there’s not only a trailer (see above) but also a few details on the game, including the fact it’s “in-universe,” which helps it sidestep the whole is it/is it not canon debating. GoH is a hologram based game you might find in a cantina in a galaxy far, far away, but why you’d want to play that at a cantina rather than interact with various species of such a diverse galaxy is beyond me. But if we can do it here, surely there’s someone in one of Mos Eisley’s cantinas doing the exact same thing.

Lack of a story justifications aside, you’ll basically get to build up an army of characters playing mission modes and against other players, while being able to collect new characters through both in-game actions and micro-transaction (insert sad face here). Thankfully it seems you can gather all the characters you’d like without having to pay a single real world dime, but it remains to be seen just how hard or ridiculous the in-game actions required to get popular or more powerful characters really are. IGN’s interview with John Salera, Executive Producer on the game, covers all that I’ve just told you and more, including lack of trading.

Download it on your mobile platform of choice this holiday season, just in time for waiting in line for The Force Awakens.
