Star Wars Rebels Review: “Flight of the Defender”

Star Wars Rebels Flight of the Defende

– Spoiler Review –

Star Wars Rebels‘ “Flight of the Defender” has plenty of exciting action with the titular TIE, but a tease for the show’s endgame is what will stick with viewers for a very long time. Continue reading “Star Wars Rebels Review: “Flight of the Defender””

Star Wars Rebels Review: “The Occupation”

Star Wars Rebels The Occupation

– Spoiler Review –

Star Wars Rebels has slowly gone darker over the years and “The Occupation” brings that home both literally a figuratively, forever altering the planet Lothal in unexpected, emotional, and compelling ways. Continue reading “Star Wars Rebels Review: “The Occupation””

Star Wars Rebels Review: “In the Name of the Rebellion”

Star Wars Rebels In the Name of the Rebellion

– Spoiler Review –

Star Wars Rebels‘ final season gets another high octane hour with, “In the Name of the Rebellion,” which doesn’t manage to upstage the premiere but matches it in nearly every way possible, while deepening the series’ connective tissue with Rogue One. If this is the level they’ll maintain all season, we’re in for quite the final treat. Continue reading “Star Wars Rebels Review: “In the Name of the Rebellion””

Star Wars Rebels Season Four Premiere Review: “Heroes of Mandalore” Part 2

Star Wars Rebels Heroes of Mandalore Part 2

– Spoiler Review –

This review focuses mainly on Part 2 of the Star Wars Rebels’ final season premiere episode, “Heroes of Mandalore,” but it also sums up my feelings on the entire episode, feelings that have changed in both pluses and minuses since seeing only the first half at April’s Celebration Orlando. The whole review will tell you one thing though: why I’d say this is the best premiere episode of the series. The Curious Case of Force Ghosts

The Curious Case of Force GhostsForce Ghosts, Force Spirits, Blue Jedi Group…call it what you will, but they’ve had a complicated and varied history in Legends, as the ability for Force users to become one had editors and authors alike jumping from retcon to retcon as George Lucas decided to fill in the blanks slowly over time. Once those stories were placed aside for the new canon, Force spirit practitioners went from over 80 individuals to 5 (!), the process and ability to become a spirit stayed complicated but was given some clarity, while Force spirits have since been rarely touched on or discussed. In the Curious Case of Force Ghosts, I’ll be looking at how even though the whole idea of Force spirits got simpler, it has gotten equally more complicated (Yoda’s The Clone Wars arc helped on both ends), offering up curious questions including why Anakin Skywalker hasn’t made many visits (yet), and who’s still haunting around in the sequel trilogy. Strap in, unless you’re a ghost of course then float around at your leisure, as Detective Mynock is about take you on a ghoulish ride into the spirits of Star Wars where the answers might be more fleeting than any of us would like at the moment. UPDATE 12/18/17: I’ve included a section with details gleaned from the release of The Last Jedi. It’s full of spoilers, so don’t read it if you don’t want to be spoiled. Star Wars Rebels Final Season Panel and Trailer Impressions (SWCO 2017)

The rumors have been swirling for awhile and I had my hopes there’d at least be a season 5 of Star Wars Rebels, but the packed and philosophical Rebels panel at Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017 revealed the upcoming season 4 would be the series’ last. From Filoni’s heartfelt goodbye to the show, his promise of something darker and unexpected from the final season, a haunting trailer, and a premiere episode that’ll end with your tears, Rebels season 4 looks to hurdle us through its final hours in its biggest season yet. Star Wars Rebels Season Four Premiere Review: “Heroes of Mandalore” Part 1 (SWCO 2017)

Star Wars Rebels Heroes of Mandalore Part 1

Spoiler Review –

While I’ll have a write up about the rest of the panel soon (update: it’s here), one thing was clear from both the season 4 trailer and what the cast/crew talked about during it: Star Wars Rebels‘ final season would be both darker and unlike the previous seasons in many ways. After having seen the first part of the season 4 premiere episode, “Heroes of Mandalore,” I can safely say dark is only the beginning, as this first part ends on such an emotional downer it brought the entire viewing room to silence, and tears certainly from me. Now, it being darker doesn’t mean this isn’t still the show we’ve all come to know and love over the past three seasons or that it isn’t good, in fact, it’s an excellent showcase of how far this show has come with both its characters (the important part) and plots. And if this is only from the first half of the opening episode, it’ll be well worth your wait to see it and its second half until it premieres in the fall. Dave Filoni: Animated Origins and Unexpected Fates Panel Impressions (SWCO 2017)

Dave Filoni and Pablo Hidalgo for Animated Origins and Unexpected FatesAs has been the custom over the past two celebrations, Dave Filoni and Pablo Hidalgo reveal inside looks at characters and unreleased behind-the-scenes details and new footage from the animated shows The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Unlike The Untold Clone Wars or Ahsoka’s Untold Tales, Animated Origins and Unexpected Fates wasn’t nearly as revealing, though there were teases for what’s to come on Rebels‘ 4th season (including Ahsoka returning!) and a great clip from TCW featuring Boba Fett and Cad Bane, but Filoni and Hidalgo are such a joy to listen to talking about Star Wars, the panel is always a blast no matter how much they give away.
