Star Wars Comics January 2021 Solicitations

The idea of 2021 finally being here has likely been the wish of many people, and while it won’t completely turn around everything that’s transpired in 2020, it’s a beacon of hope that maybe things can start to get better. Also a beacon of hope? The Starlight Beacon the High Republic Jedi set up in the Outer Rim, as January brings us the official beginning of The High Republic initiative! Beyond that big comic release, Aphra and Sana’s big meet cute finally arrives after being delayed, Shara Bey looks to step up in a big way, Vader and Ochi keep dueling, and Padmé is stuck rescuing Anakin (again) after their latest date night goes sideways. Star Wars Comics December 2020 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics December 2020 Solicitations

December might usually be cold depending on where you live, like here in Wisconsin for me, but it’s usually full of cheer as the holidays are here. Things might be a little different this year, unfortunately, but you can at least count on some great tales in the galaxy far, far away thanks to Star Wars comics! December’s short but sweet list of comics looks to bring the chaotic year to a fun close, from a raid on an Imperial Museum on Coruscant, Doctor Aphra and Sana Starros stuck together again (it’s been moved to January), Wookiee Life Day celebrations, and Darth Vader facing down a creepy, unused concept for The Rise of Skywalker. Head below for all the details! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics December 2020 Solicitations”

Novel Review: From a Certain Point of View – Star Wars

Star Wars From a Certain Point of View

Minor Spoiler Review –

There have been short story collections in the Star Wars universe before, but nothing quite like this! From a Certain Point of View gathers together 43 authors for 40 stories giving us new perspectives on Episode IV: A New Hope, as a celebration of the film’s 40th Anniversary (bonus: all the author proceeds go to the charity First Book!). In short, the stories within had me crying, laughing, and filled me up with joyous wonder, much like A New Hope did and continues to do 40 years later, which is a pretty fitting way to celebrate the 40th anniversary, if you ask me! Canon Junior Novel Review: Guardians of the Whills

Guardians of the Whills

Spoiler Review –

In Guardians of the Whills, Greg Rucka expertly captures the bond between leads Baze Malbus and Chirrut Îmwe while bringing the struggles of Jedha to light even more profoundly than Rogue One does, making the young reader novel one to be enjoyed by all ages and especially by fans of the two characters. Canon Young Adult Novel Review: Star Wars: Before the Awakening

Before the Awakening

Spoiler Review –

Serving as both a companion piece to the original trilogy character-focused YA novels from “Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and the film itself, Before the Awakening (written by Greg Rucka, art by Phil Noto) fleshes out the three new highly entertaining and enjoyable leads of the new trilogy, Finn, Rey, and Poe. Overall BtA doesn’t change our perceptions of the characters, but it deepens the strong character work done for them in the film as well as explain the state of the galaxy a little more than the film cared to. Any fan of The Force Awakens and these three new leads should take the time to read their stories within Before the Awakening. Canon Comic Review: Shattered Empire #4

Shattered Empire #4

Spoiler Review –

By the will of the Force, Shara Bey finds herself helping Luke on a mission he deems vitally important. Shattered Empire #4 wraps up some questions, leaves several things tantalizing open, and gives Luke his first new canon post-Return of the Jedi moment (and it raises even more questions about his role in The Force Awakens), leaving me wishing this had been an on-going series instead of a limited one.

Canon Comic Review: Shattered Empire #2

Shattered Empire #2

While Shattered Empire didn’t have the strongest of starts, #2 says frak that and ups the ante and its game with a puzzling new Imperial character, a solid lead in Shara, and a what-the-hell ending. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Shattered Empire #2”
