Every once in a while, a character appears in a Star Wars film, full of intrigue and promise of future stories, deep lore, and expansive adventures. One such character was Captain Phasma, first introduced in the teaser trailer for The Force Awakens. With chrome armor and a long cape, Phasma gained the attention and excitement of fans across the galaxy. The prequels were full of villains, many easy to see from a parsec away, but one who could hide in plain sight, and look quite dashing while doing so (even in pjs), was none other than the luxurious Count Dooku! IDW’s Star Wars Adventures, which launched in September of last year, as been steadily bringing readers great little stories with familiar characters big and small across the saga for quite some time. It’s Annual 2018 issue isn’t much different, though it has two great scribes in John Jackson Miller (welcome back to Star Wars comics, sir!) and Cavan Scott, and is the much awaited (or dreaded, depending on who you ask) return of the Marvel’s giant green bunny character, Jaxxon. When it was first announced the younger marketed Star Wars Adventures comics from IDW would have a Forces of Destiny tie-in miniseries, a show itself great for the same audience the comic reached, it felt like a match made in Cloud City. Now that all five issues of the female-centric miniseries have released, all written by female creatives, I can honestly say it belongs among the clouds, despite a few minor missteps that won’t really matter to core readers of the event series. Canon Comic Review: IDW’s Star Wars Adventures Vol 1: Heroes of the Galaxy (Issues #1-2)

Star Wars Adventures Vol1 Heroes of the Galaxy

At April’s Celebration Orlando this year, IDW announced they’d be bringing all-ages Star Wars comics to the market place and now we have Star Wars Adventures! The series is as canon as Marvel’s comics are and set to contain, you guessed it, adventures across time and space of the Star Wars galaxy. Volume 1: Heroes of the Galaxy is made up of a two-part main tale about Rey during her days on Jakku and some “Tales from Wild Space” featuring Obi-Wan and Evaan Veraline, and already it’s clear SW Adventures is a product anyone can find joy in.
