Meet Team Fireball Video and Posters Released for Star Wars Resistance

The premiere of Star Wars Resistance sneaks ever closer, so new details are slowly trickling in about the characters and setting of the upcoming animated show. The video above not only introduces us to Team Fireball, which comprises of Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono (Christopher Sean), Tam Ryvora (Suzie McGrath), Jarek Yeager (Scott Lawrence), Neeku Vozo (Josh Brener), and the patched together droid Bucket, but it also features plenty of new footage from the show plus interviews with cast and crew. Once you’re done watching the video, I’m sure you’ll agree with me that Neeku might already be the breakout character of the show thanks to his hilarious idiosyncrasies. Some more details gleaned from the video, and the first poster, are below!

The Colossus

As much as I enjoy a good trailer or two, getting to hear from the show’s cast and crew always manages to get me more excited about said show, and Resistance is no different after this “Meet Team Fireball” video. Christopher Sean looks about as enthusiastic as Vanessa Marshall and Freddie Prince Jr. always were when talking about Star Wars Rebels, and I love how he mentions Kaz isn’t a good spy, which I hope means General Leia and Poe Dameron picked him because he’s so bad at spying he’d be good, as no-one would expect him; Suzie McGrath reminds me a little of Val from Solo, due to her brashness, but she’s got more “heart and passion,” as Executive Producer Athena Yvette Portillo puts it, and I’m eager to learn how, as a racer previously, she lost her ship, and if that’s why she’s a mechanic instead now; Yeager is revealed to have been a member of the Rebellion, who lives on the refueling station Colossus to stay out of galactic events but they pull him in again and again. I was half expecting Scott Lawrence to say Yeager’s too old for this shit but he keeps doing it anyways; Josh Brener about says it all for Neeku, “No matter what kind of day you’re having, Neeku is having a great day.” I had the pause the video when I laughed at that.

Portillo stresses it’s a different package than what’s come before and that they made the show for young audiences, so hopefully this should remind the older fans to chill and let the children have Star Wars catered to them since it doesn’t always have to be for the older fans. Executive Producer/Supervising Director Justin Ridge wishes he, “…had a show like this when I was growing up,” due to it being, “action-packed and very vibrant, colorful.” I couldn’t agree with either of them more, as it’s obviously made for kids but still looks to have all the hallmarks of Star Wars, like kid-orientated content has in the past, while its splashy colors and sweet looking, unique ships, plus action-adventure tone, really do make it feel like nothing we’ve gotten before.

Tracy Cannobbio, Lucasfilm’s personable, excellent Publicist, revealed we’ll be meeting more of the characters in two weeks, the “Aces.” That must be when we’ll learn more about Myrna Velasco’s Torra Doza, who is featured prominently in posters below, an image confusingly used as the preview image for the “Meet Team Fireball” video though she’s not mentioned in said video, so one has to wonder if she’ll be on the rival Aces but Kaz will bring her around to Fireball at some point.

First Order Teases

There’s some teases of the First Order component of the show, from some looks at the red-armored pilot to a glimpse of what appears to be Kylo Ren’s shuttle (though it might be a more ubiquitous First Order shuttle these days as Han and Chewie borrow one for a con job in Poe Dameron Annual #2), though I’m very intrigued to learn more about the Red TIE Guy, as it’s clear he’s not Cardinal from Delilah S. Dawson’s Phasma, so will he be some cool twist on a Legends character or a new one like most of the characters are in the show? On the flip side, there’s a shot of Resistance‘s take on Leia, hologramming in to Poe, and I wonder if that’s as close we’ll get to having her on the show for most of the first season.

Some fun things other people have pointed out:

Check out the posters below, and visit the official site’s Databank for entries on Kaz, Yeager, Tam, Neeku, and even Bucket while you wait for the upcoming reveals in two weeks. Star Wars Resistance premieres October 7 and I’m getting more excited by the minute for it.
