Rogue One Prequel Novel and Comic Announced, New Bloodline Details Revealed at C2E2 2016 (UPDATED)

Catalyst A Rogue One Story 1We might not have much regarding December’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story at the moment, but that hasn’t stopped Marvel and Del Rey announcing tie-in material set to launch in October. On top of that, the Del Rey panel at C2E2 2016 revealed some new details regarding the Leia-centric Bloodline.

Launching October 4, Catalyst: A Rogue One Story is Del Rey’s novel tie-in to the film. No details, not even an author, were given, so let the speculation begin! Could we see the return of an author Expanded Universe fans will recognize? And who will this story all introduce us to from the movie? On the comics side, Marvel announced a 3-issue limited series and a one-shot, also arriving in October. Again no further details at this time, but I’m excited for, as Florian of Jedi-Bibliothek put it, #Roguetober! This news is exactly what I was hoping for a few weeks back when the Han Solo mini-series was announced.

UPDATE 5/17/16: Out of nowhere, Marvel has cancelled the Rogue One mini-series and there’s no word on whether it’s indefinitely cancelled or if the story it would’ve told will be released elsewhere (and in a different format). Here’s hoping it had nothing to do with Eldeweiss leaking the Rogue One: A Visual Story Guide images (via Florian at Jedi-Bibliothek)!

Del Rey’s panel, which included Adam Bray, Jeffrey Brown, Claudia Gray (Lost Stars), and John Jackson Miller (A New Dawn), didn’t reveal too much, but Gray did give some hints about Bloodline. First off, one of her characters from Lost Stars will be making an appearance, but considering there were so many in the lengthy YA novel your guess is as good as mine. Secondly, the novel will not focus on the history of the family drama surrounding Leia, Han, and their son (which I imagine Ep. VIII and IX will). There’s a liveblog from Newsarama and ClubJade’s collection of livetweets if you’re interesting in hearing more of what was discussed by the authors assembled.
