Star Wars Comic-Con Plans and A New Dawn Launch Event

Star Wars Rebels Plan your San Diego Comic-Con panel viewings accordingly, as Lucasfilm announced their schedule for the much anticipated event. On top of that, John Jackson Miller will be at Barnes and Noble in a galaxy near us to help launch his latest novel, and first of the new canon, A New Dawn. Over on the official site, Lucasfilm’s SDCC plans were laid out so those attending can start planning ahead on how they want to tackle the event. And just because they won’t be featuring Episode VII doesn’t mean they can’t just throw out the title, but call that wishful thinking on my part. Rightfully though, the Comic-Con presence Lucasfilm is focusing the most on is Star Wars Rebels, with a special panel including Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and the entire main cast. Also to note are the Hasbro panel, look out for some new toy announcements, and the Del Rey panel, where we should be getting a look at even more of the upcoming novels. Here’s a quick rundown of a few of their panels: Star Wars Rebels PosterJuly 24th: The Heroes of Star Wars Rebels (6-7pm)

Lucasfilm’s special panel, The Heroes of Star Wars Rebels, will feature executive producer Dave Filoni, as well as the first panel appearance by executive producer Simon Kinberg and stars Freddie Prinze, Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar, and Taylor Gray. They’ll discuss making the show and will reveal exclusive content from the upcoming series for fans in attendance

Originally, when I was writing this up on Tuesday, I was going to speculate that this panel would also reveal both the voice actors for Agent Kallus and the Inquisitor, alongside finally officially saying Lando would be in the show. After Thursday’s reveal of Agent Kallus, and with the name of the panel being about the heroes, I’m changing my tune: we might be looking at more than just Lando being shown. In fact I’m willing to bet there will be at least 2 Legends characters joining the series, but I can’t even begin to speculate on who (but I’m pulling for Kyle Katarn). July 25th – Hasbro: Star Wars (12-1pm) “Attendees will also get a sneak peek of upcoming, never-before-seen action figures from the highly anticipated Star Wars Rebels animated series.” and Star Wars: A New Dawn (2-3pm) “…discuss(es) the planning and process of Star Wars: A New Dawn, and present(s) the list of upcoming Star Wars novels from Del Rey,” which should be more exciting than the description makes it sound.

And in just as exciting news, John Jackson Miller will be attending a launch event for A New Dawn in Appleton, Wisconsin at a Barnes & Noble. I went to his author event for Star Wars Reads Day last year and I’ll be attending this event. He’s got a great personality and real enthusiasm for his work and I look forward to hearing his thoughts on the making of A New Dawn plus getting to meet other fans who plan to attend and herald in the new dawn of Star Wars storytelling. In case you don’t know what all the fuss is about regarding A New Dawn, a novel following Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla from Star Wars Rebels, then read the final book description (via makingstarwars.net). Here’s a sample:

But Jarrus won’t be fighting alone. Unlikely allies, including a bomb-throwing radical, a former Imperial surveillance agent, a vengeful security officer, and the mysterious Hera Syndulla–an agent provocateur with motives of her own–team up with Jarrus to challenge the Empire. As a crisis of apocalyptic proportions unfolds on the planet Gorse, they must stand together against one of the Emperor’s most fearsome enforcers–for the sake of a world and its people.
