Canon Comic Retrospective: Poe Dameron Series

Poe Dameron Complete Series Retrospective

– Full Spoiler Review –

If there’s anybody who can write Star Wars comics well, it is Charles Soule. The man has an incredible range of gifts: from the Master-Padawan relationship of Obi-Wan & Anakin to the tortured mind of a Sith Lord in Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith. If anyone was going to lead the charge into the New Republic era of comic books, I wouldn’t trust anybody more than I would Soule. Poe Dameron, at least at its conception, took us on the search for Lor San Tekka, the occasion shown at the beginning of The Force Awakens. Instead of showing us a straightforward search and rescue mission, the series took some mighty fun pit stops: a cult that worshiped a kaiju-bearing egg, Mr. Bones against the First Order, revisiting Cato Nemoidia, and more. Poe Dameron #3

– Spoiler Review –

As Poe Dameron #3 pays off the build up of the past two issues with action packed fun, it also takes a bizarre turn when it reveals what is hiding in the Crèche’s egg, which highlights the series’ devotion to adventurously wild tales with charismatic and larger than life characters (almost literally this issue). Let’s hope Dameron keeps the strange and fun coming as it continues. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Poe Dameron #3”

Yes, you heard that right: Charles Soule and Phil Noto have brought to life Agent Terex of the First Order, a villain who is able to match Poe’s charms in the worst ways, making this series even more entertaining in the process. Poe Dameron #1

– Spoiler Review –

The best pilot in the galaxy stars in the latest on-going Marvel Star Wars comic: Poe Dameron! Written by Charles Soule (who’s a Star Wars comics veteran at this point) with art by Phil Noto, Poe Dameron #1 brings across Poe’s charm and skills in comic panels, it layers in some interesting bits to the background of The Force Awakens, and promises to explore some of the stranger parts of the universe. In other words: it’s a stellar start for a new series! There’s also a BB-8 one-shot in the issue and it’s about the cutest thing you’ll ever see (and not just because it stars BB-8, though that helps a lot).
