Canon Comic Miniseries Review: Target Vader

Target Vader Miniseries Review

– Spoiler Review –

Target Vader sends a Legends resurrection, and few extra bounty hunters for good measure, to track down and kill Darth Vader, but for those not attached to the blast from the past, is there enjoyment to be had in Beilert Valance’s canon tale of revenge? Star Wars Comics December 2019 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics December 2019 Solicitations

December is full of endings: the end of the 2019 calendar year, the end of the Skywalker Saga with The Rise of Skywalker, and the end of Phase 1 of Marvel’s Star Wars comics??!!!!??? That’s right, with the announcement of Empire Ascendant one-shot earlier today, the beginning of the end for Marvel’s first Phase, as it were, has arrived. And that includes Doctor Aphra, much to this fan’s giant dismay, though it’s not all endings, as December sees the start of The Rise of Kylo Ren miniseries! Comic News: Star Wars: Empire Ascendant One-Shot Closes Series and Current Era of Star Wars Comics, Including Doctor Aphra

Star Wars Empire Ascendant End Marvel Star Wars Phase 1

I’d say this news comes out of nowhere, but the writing’s been on the wall, and panels, for some time now. With December’s Star Wars: Empire Ascendant #1, a 56 (!) page one-shot, not only will it wrap up the Star Wars series proper, it signals the end of the current era of Star Wars comics which started back in 2015, while it’ll also reveal the fate of Doctor Aphra (I am SO not ready to hear that phrase) too. More thoughts below on the end of “Phase 1.” Continue reading “Comic News: Star Wars: Empire Ascendant One-Shot Closes Series and Current Era of Star Wars Comics, Including Doctor Aphra”

Star Wars Comics November 2019 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics November 2019 Solicitations

Don’t mind me, over here in the corner, breathing painfully into a brown paper bag, worrying about what these November 2019 Star Wars comics solicitations are pointing towards: the potential end of the Doctor Aphra series?!!!!!??? But let’s not focus on endings and look forward to…wait, now the Star Wars mainline series is ending (for now)?! I’ll be in the corner again, so you go ahead and check out the solicits below…I’ll be fine. Probably. Continue reading “Star Wars Comics November 2019 Solicitations”

Star Wars Comics October 2019 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics October 2019 Solicitations

You can always trust Halloween to be full of sweets, and Star Wars comics won’t be disappointing in October as we’re getting plenty of delectable sweets that way too. IDW and Marvel both bring Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker content to the table (with Marvel’s beginning and ending in the same month!), IDW brings back the spooky with Return to Vader’s Castle, but is the scariest thing of all what might be happening with the Doctor Aphra series? Check it out below! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics October 2019 Solicitations”

Canon Comic Review: Target Vader #1

Target Vader #1

Target Vader finds a group of bounty hunters, one from Legends past, out to take down, you guessed it, Darth Vader himself. With issue #1, this latest Vader-focused series might be playing a bit too much into the nostalgia factor with a Legends resurrection and can’t quite avoid making readers ask “why more Vader,” but it does have some intriguing mysteries I might want to see solved. In the interest of time, I’m only reviewing the first issue, but will return to review the whole miniseries once it’s completed later this year. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Target Vader #1”

Star Wars Comics September 2019 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics September 2019 Solicitations

Age of Resistance overloads in September, finishing up its run, and the entirety of the “Age of Star Wars” maxiseries with some big sequel trilogy names, like Rey, Rose, Kylo, and Snoke (good luck to the artist having to draw Snoke’s golden robes!), while Doctor Aphra hits its “Unspeakable” penultimate issue, the video game prequel Jedi: Fallen Order – Dark Temple begins introducing players to its story, and some rock monsters mind probe Threepio; you know, totally ordinary business. September sounds like it’s going to be a wild one in the comics…check it out below! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics September 2019 Solicitations”

Star Wars Comics August 2019 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics August 2019 Solicitations

By the end of August 2019, both the 14-acre Star Wars theme park expansions will be open, signaling a new era for ways to interact with the Saga, making it feel a little less far, far away. And as fans gear up for The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian, the comics continue the beat of their own drums, though with the Galaxy’s Edge and TIE Fighter minis coming to an end, what might take their place? We don’t have an answer yet, so spend August enjoying Doctor Aphra antics, the early beginnings of Greg Pak’sStar Wars, and Kylo Ren marooned on a planet with General Hugs Hux in the Age of Resistance, among others! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics August 2019 Solicitations”

Star Wars Comics July 2019 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics July 2019 Solicitations

While July could’ve celebrated Independence Day by finally breaking away from having Darth Vader in comics, it chose against it, but at least Tom Taylor will be free to go to the Age of Resistance as we get closer and closer to The Rise of Skywalker. Also in July, the new Star Wars comic creative team of Greg Pak and Phil Noto takes over from Kieron Gillen and, as we always should, we get a double dose of Doctor Aphra! Check out July’s Star Wars comics below! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics July 2019 Solicitations”
