Ahsoka Premieres August 23, New TV Spot and Stills Revealed

As Empire Magazine offers a slow-drip of new stills and information for their big cover story on the upcoming Ahsoka show, Lucasfilm has officially announced the show will premiere August 23, alongside unveiling a new TV spot with some additional footage those at Celebration Europe 2023 got to experience. Head below for the stills and the sparse new info from Empire!

Per the official site’s description of the show:

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka will follow the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

The series stars Rosario Dawson as the titular former Jedi, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, David Tennant as Huyang, and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn.

The new TV spot features some footage of Sabine Wren fighting Shin Hati with Ezra Bridger’s lightsaber (whom she feels she has an obligation to find, of course), which Celebration attendees got to see a few months ago, while the big explosion Ahsoka Tano is running away from is new as well. Shin Hati and Baylan Skoll are of great interest, considering they are new characters, and things got even more intriguing when it was revealed Baylan is a Jedi who survived Order 66. Did Shin as well? Is she his kid? How did he survive? Regardless of all the more exciting questions to be had with this information, I guess people were upset there’s another Order 66 survivor, and while it might seem like there’s a lot, Numidian Prime did the math and, with Legends and Canon combined (with canon having less so far), it has a 97% success rate so…it’s still quite the absolutely deadly event. In the end, rest in peace to actor Ray Stevenson, who suddenly passed away in late May, I can’t wait to see the performance he brings to the role (especially after recently enjoying his part of RRR). Most of the stills, as seen above, aren’t anything terribly special or new, though one certainly stands out: an Inquisitor! From the helmet design alone, it looks like the Eight Brother, who we last saw in Star Wars Rebels‘ memorable “Twilight of the Apprentice.” Is this set in the present or a flashback? If the present, is it really still the Eight Brother or someone who took their armor? Or someone who had similar armor? Is it another Inquisitor? Or someone from Ahsoka’s past? I’m certainly getting more and more invested in this show as we near it’s release, which we now know is August 23.

As always, it’s important to point out: while the charges were dismissed or dropped in the case against Rosario Dawson, Dedrek Finley, the trans man alleging wrong-doing against Dawson, vows to continue in court whenever they allow it, as charges were only dropped due to the court’s unwillingness to reschedule around COVID issues, which sounds like an easy excuse to try to wipe justice under the rug. Trans rights are human rights, an even more important reminder as many politicians attack the rights of marginalized groups across the United States and the rest of the world.
