Star Wars Comics May 2024 Solicitations

May is a rather joyous around the Manor and in Star Wars fandom overall, as the always growing celebrations of May the Fourth provide much to enjoy! This year it falls on Free Comic Book Day and there are two special FCBD issues to enjoy then, while that same weekend The Phantom Menace returns to theaters to celebrate 25 years! The comics are joining in on the film’s anniversary with a special one-shot and a series of anniversary covers, plus other prequel-set stories including Maul-centric chaos, but fans of all eras will have plenty to look forward to with plenty of big The High Republic moments and the Rebellion trying to rescue Mon Mothma (?!), to name a few things. Comic News: Darth Maul Stars in Latest Black, White & Red Miniseries, Out April 2024

darth maul black white red reveal

Darth Vader certainly brought the chills in his, and Star Wars’ first, Black, White & Red miniseries, though considering how much Vader content we’ve had, it didn’t quite hit as hard. Now Darth Maul enters the ring for his own Black, White & Red miniseries and, given his spooky and bloody publishing history plus his iconic, devilish look, I do believe he’ll make even more of a splash in this format. Out April 25, 2024, the four-issue series will have a different creative team for each entry, with first featuring Benjamin Percy and Stefano Raffaele. Check out a few more details, as well as some wicked cool covers, for the first issue below, otherwise visit the Manor for our reviews starting April! saber for hire announcement

With the third and final Phase of The High Republic era just getting started, we’re slowly coming to understand the scope and scale of where the story may all go. While we might know all the novel names for Phase III, it’s clear stories still remain to be announced and we got our first new one: Dark Horse’s The High Republic Adventures: Saber for Hire, starting April 10!! Jedi turned monster hunter Ty Yorrick is back in a starring role, with writer Cavan Scott and artist Rachael Stott returning to show us her next adventure, where we’ll see her face new challenges behind the Nihil’s Stormwall, including trying to be a Master! Elsewhere in High Republic news, we got our first synopsis for the upcoming young-adult novel Tears of the Nameless, while new concept art was released of said scary creatures recently! Comic News: Doctor Aphra Vol. 2 Ending with Issue #40

Doctor Aphra 2020 issue 40 endingSometimes, you just need to rip the Band-Aid off and get it over with, and as much as this one is going to hurt, it’s better than not knowing. Alyssa Wong took to Twitter today to confirm what we’ve been dreading since the January 2024 solicits first dropped: their run of Doctor Aphra (Vol. 2) is officially ending at issue #40. There was no way it would go on forever, as much as myself and all the other fans would’ve wanted, and issue #40 is where the first Volume ended as well, so it was inevitable to some degree but still heartbreaking to see. This series has meant so much to so many different people, from its groundbreaking representation in the Saga, its depiction of broken yet resourceful people just trying to get by in a harsh universe, the humorous exploits for all involved, one of the longest and most interesting arcs in the character’s history, and lots and lots of heartbreak for its many characters trying to find happiness…I could go on, but we all know what we love about it and are grieving in our own ways with this. With only two issues left, I’m glad it’ll get to close out with a finale that’s not a Dark Droids crossover tie-in, while Alyssa Wong has promised we should keep an eye out on December’s Revelations #1 (2023) and the future (they said their “current” run is ending and I can’t help but focusing on that word). Chelli Aphra is my favorite character and it’s never easy to know her story is done, for now, but these glimmers of hope are a nice touch to sad news. Check back to the Manor for the remaining reviews and news for whatever comes next! {Just the Tweet below the cut, if the link doesn’t work} Continue reading “Comic News: Doctor Aphra Vol. 2 Ending with Issue #40”

Star Wars Comics February 2024 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics february 2024 Solicitations

February 2024’s Star Wars comics look a little lite, as Bounty Hunters is over and Doctor Aphra (Vol. 2) is suspiciously missing (DON’T DO THIS TO ME!), but what is on offer looks like it’ll pack quite the punch! The Mace Windu miniseries will finally kick off, Luke Skywalker finds himself in a Sith-filled situation, and The High Republic comics look to promise the return of faces once thought lost! This month will also host another batch of Black History Month Variants, which I’ve already covered, so without further ado, head below for Star Wars comics’ February 2024 solicitations!

Prepare for High Republic Phase III with New Concept Art, New Characters! (UPDATED)

phase 3 high republic new concept art

As Phase III of The High Republic really begins in earnest this month, the official site’s slowly been showing off concept art we all hoped we’d see after spying the little folder on Lucasfilm Publishing creative director Michael Siglain’s laptop at NYCC 2023. Since it’s been a year after Starlight Beacon fell, many of our favorites have gone through a lot and have updated looks to match, while there also introductions to new characters, like the younglings at the core of January’s Escape from Valo. Head below for all the new concept art and details! Continue reading “Prepare for High Republic Phase III with New Concept Art, New Characters! (UPDATED)”

Marvel’s 2024 Black History Month Variant Covers Revealed!

2024 black history month variants announced

After a few years of Pride Month covers, in 2023 Marvel added Black History Month and Women’s History Month variant covers for Star Wars comics as well, and it looks like 2024 will cement these as tradition! Ken Lashley takes the reins for 2024’s Black History Month Variants for five powerfully gorgeous covers, starring Mace Windu, Bell Zettifar, Captain Panaka, Kawlan Roken, and Adi Gallia. It’s a great line-up and I really do like these covers, but only have Adi Gallia to liven up the gender representation, especially after last year was a little more diverse, is disappointing. Still, very glad these are back and hope they continue for the foreseeable future! Head below for a look at all five covers and what issues they appear on.
