The Mandalorian & Grogu Film Announced, Season 2 of Ahsoka Confirmed

mandalorian grogu film announcement

After the way things ended in The Mandalorian season three, a disappointingly easy and far too quick conclusion to the series’ story so far, Jan Favreau and the story get to fail upwards in the first new Star Wars film to go into productionThe Mandalorian & Grogu. Is it the start of a series of films? Is it bringing Din Djarin and Grogu’s story to an end? Or just picking it up until Dave Filoni’s film wraps up all the Mando-verse shows story? Will Pedro Pascal be more than the voice of Din for the film at least? Why couldn’t it just be another, shorter season of the show instead? And…is that really the title? Hopefully we’ll learn more soon since it’s set to be in production later this year. Also stealthily announced was a second season of Ahsoka, which was all but certain given how it all ended, but never confirmed until now. The Mandalorian & Grogu joins the upcoming slate of films which includes Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey/New Jedi Order (my most anticipated!), James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi, and the aforementioned Dave Filoni one.

Check back to the Manor as we learn more!

Has it all been leading to this? The question remains pertinent in the Ahsoka season one finale episode “Part VIII: The Jedi, The Witch, And The Warlord,” as while we get plenty of enticing cliffhangers and hints where this story will go next, the show’s unwillingness to dive much deeper made one wonder why these characters got to this point. Ahsoka Tano and Huyang show up for the party in the other galaxy in Ahsoka’s penultimate episode, “Part VII: Dreams and Madness,” which goes big with the action, returns to some political intrigue, and lets us spend some time with Thrawn and Ezra’s return, but makes it harder to swallow we’re one episode out from closing the season. After Ahsoka Tano’s journey through the World Between Worlds, Ahsoka takes us back to the main story, and in doing so, makes for its best episode yet as familiar faces return and we explore a brand-new galaxy in “Part VI: Far, Far Away.” Continue reading “Ahsoka Season One Review: “Part VI: Far, Far Away””

As Ashoka Tano awakes in the World Between Worlds, she’s faced with one last lesson from her former Master, while Hera and Jacen Syndulla lead a search for her and Sabine Wren. Ahsoka’s “Part V: Shadow Warrior” is dazzling, exciting, but held back in little ways, including by the chosen format. Continue reading “Ahsoka Season One Review: “Part V: Shadow Warrior””

While some of the hollowness is getting harder to ignore, there’s no doubt Ahsoka “Part IV – Fallen Jedi” was a engaging episode with lots of action, plot movement, and a cliffhanger like no other. Continue reading “Ahsoka Season One Review: “Part IV: Fallen Jedi””

As Sabine Wren, Ahsoka Tano, and Huyang rush to investigate whatever Morgan Elsbeth has up her immaculate sleeves, getting into more trouble than they bargained for, Hera Syndulla makes the case for New Republic intervention, though to them it might not seem like “Time to Fly” on Part III of Ahsoka. Once the lingering threads from Star Wars Rebels’ finale were teased to continue in Ahsoka Tano’s first live-action appearance, for long time fans there’s been a lengthy wait to see where it would all go. With the premiere of Ahsoka, what was animated is now live-action and plowing forward to the future of Star Wars storytelling, both giving the previous series’ fans plenty to enjoy, but adding enough they might just be on the same level as fans hopping on now in some aspects. As far as starts go, while choppy at times, it’s a solid foundation which looks, feels, and sounds like its big screen counterparts and offers plenty of promise. Final Ahsoka Trailer, Two-Episode Premiere August 23

When Ahsoka hits Disney+ on August 23, it’ll come with a two-episode premiere, all the better to maybe explain why Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) calls Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) “Master” and the two have such an icy relationship!!? The latest trailer is packed with new footage, including: a HD look at the face of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen); beautiful shots of Lothal in live-action; Sabine’s Loth-cat decaled helmet; a canon E-Wing (!!!); the New Republic Fleet; what looks close to a Star Map from Knights of the Old Republic (seen in a place kind of like Malachor); lots more of Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) whose son Jacen’s live-action look was revealed by a LEGO set leak; Ezra Bridger’s (Eman Esfandi) little hologram speaks!; more of former Jedi Baylon Skoll (Ray Stevenson, Rest in Peace) and Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno), twisting Ahsoka’s famous “I am no Jedi” line; lots of Anakin Skywalker being mentioned, potentially hinting at rumors being true his Ghost or a flashback might be in the show; and that aforementioned and very intriguing icy history between Sabine and Ahsoka. I have doubts Sabine is Force-sensitive, wouldn’t be terribly mad about it if she is though, but interested to learn about the training between the two regardless, especially as Shin Hati tells Sabine she has no power. Head below for a whole bunch of screenshots from the trailer, as well as the little sizzle reel about Ahsoka and Dawson released a day before, along with a disclaimer about the actress.
