Andor Series Premiere Review: “Episodes 1-3”

Andor Premiere Review MynockManor

– Spoiler Review –

Rogue One, is one of the more recent films well-beloved by many, often for its story, action, humor, and heart, but also its characters and their struggles against the giant Imperial war machine that will change the fate of the galaxy. While all the characters deserve more insight into their pasts, Cassian Andor and his darker side of the Rebellion, a spy or assassin depending on the job, was full of potential and thus was born Andor, a show about his past and how he becomes such a vital and faithful member of the Rebellion against the Empire. There’s been a lot of expectations for this show since it was first announced and as more details started trickling in, and after finally seeing the first three episodes, I can comfortably say it manages to live up to any and all expectations I’ve had, but also promises to blow them out of this galaxy over the course of this season alone. D23 ’22: Tales of the Jedi and Mandalorian S3 Trailers, Bad Batch S2 Out January ’23, and More!

The D23 Expo in 2022 had a few gifts for Star Wars fans, bringing trailers for Tales of the Jedi (see above!) and The Mandalorian‘s third season to the public after holding them hostage back at Celebration Anaheim ’22, a new trailer for the imminent premiere of Andor, The Bad Batch season 2 pushed from the fall to January 2023, our first glimpse at the Jude Law-led Skeleton Crew, and even the initial concepts for the heroes of The High Republic-set Young Jedi Adventures animated show! Head below for the other new trailers and other details, like the recent casting news (not officially confirmed at D23) for the Ahsoka show! New Andor Trailer Wows, Premiering Sept 21 Now With 3 Episodes

My initial reaction is laden with expletives, because holy mynocks is that a brilliant full trailer for Andor! I love what they’ve managed to do with the Volume to shoot most of the other shows (and can’t wait to see how they continue to use it), but Andor filmed for a long time on a lot of sets and it’s clear from this trailer how visually stunning that’s helped make this show. It looks like another Star Wars movie, but this time on the small screen via Disney+! While it’s disappointing the show’s been delayed until September 21 for its premiere, bringing with it three-episodes instead, I think this trailer shows why it’s going to be way worth that wait. Since I last covered Andor at the Lucasfilm Showcase Panel, while we knew the two season show would take place 5 years prior to Rogue One and lead right into it, it’s since been revealed season 1 will take place over a year, while every three episodes of season two will cover a year, taking us up to the film; it’s a gutsy idea and I can’t wait to see how it’s handled, especially since season one looks so incredible already. Head below for character names and a slick new poster! UPDATE: Here’s our review of the series’ three episode premiere; follow along here for more reviews as the series airs! Lucasfilm Showcase Panel (SWCA 2022)

Skeleton Crew Announcement.jfif 1

Since 2015’s Celebration Anaheim, there wasn’t quite been a weekend opening panel like the one with The Force Awakens’ trailer, and well, the Lucasfilm Showcase Panel for Anaheim 2022 wanted to say “hold my spotchka!” but it didn’t quite get there, due to focusing on non-Star Wars projects and by denying this panel to everyone at the convention minus those in the room, it could never quite permeate the weekend like SWCA ’15’s did even if it had a similar show-stopper. Let’s take a moment to address how disappointing, massively so, that they gate-kept this panel from those at home by choosing not to stream it (and the rest of the weekend’s opening panels), with only The Mandalorian’s S3 footage not being shown online anyways, screwing over international fans, fans who can’t come out due to health reasons, fans that can’t come due to COVID and wars, or even just monetary reasons…it’s an extremely inept choice in 2022, especially due to one short teaser, and I wish I could bet on Lucasfilm doing better but I don’t have much faith (like, let us at home pay to watch, even!). That out of the way, head below for the Andor trailer, Jude Law headlining 2023’s Skeleton Crew, and the non-Star Wars news, I guess! Continue reading “Lucasfilm Showcase Panel (SWCA 2022)”

Vanity Fair Lifts Veil on Lucasfilm’s TV Future

Vader Reva and Obi in Vanity Fair Shoot

With a little over a week before Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022, Lucasfilm partnered with Vanity Fair on an article pulling back the first layers on what’s to come from its live-action slate of TV and movies. While the latest photoshoot and article don’t uncover anything largely new, besides the announcement of a new show already rumored, plenty of intriguing details about shows like Andor and The Acolyte, as well as what films are on tap, offer a refreshing and welcomed glimpse at what’s to come for the future of Star Wars. Here’s hoping the animation side of things gets just as much love next or sooner! Head below for all the new details and more from the photoshoot! Celebration Anaheim 2022 Panels Revealed: Tales of the Jedi, High Republic, Bad Batch Season Two, and More!

Celebration Anaheim 2022 PanelsThe full schedule of panels for Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022 has been revealed, teasing tons of big news and reveals, while also confirming a rumor, of all things! Tales of the Jedi was first rumored after images appeared online of a Lucasfilm Production team gift in December 2021 and now the panel listing for Anaheim 2022 confirmed the show’s existence as an animated anthology of shorts. I don’t expect more details until then, besides maybe a tease on May the Fourth this year, but hopefully it’s shorts like Star Wars Visions, with different creatives for each one and longer than the Galaxy of Adventures micro-shorts. Beyond the show’s reveal, there’s confirmation of a The High Republic focused panel, various publishing panels, the Attack of the Clones 20th Anniversary Celebration, Siege of Mandalore screening, and so much more! There’s no word on what we’ll be able to watch from home for those of us who can’t make it this year (breaking my streak by not going!), but head below to check out some of my picks for panels to enjoy so maybe you can start planning accordingly whether you go or not this year! Future of Star Wars Unveiled: Rogue Squadron Movie, TV Series Lando, Andor, The Acolyte and More Announced!

The Future of Star Wars Disney Investors Day 2020 Image

Star Wars is dead…long live Star Wars! And honestly, I have no clue how or where to begin this ginormous, overwhelming drop of news about the future of Star Wars, as there are nearly 10 new series announced for Disney+ and a new movie from Patty Jenkins called Rogue Squadron all set to hit our collective eyeballs in the next few years! I am absolutely thrilled at all this content coming, though a little anxious about it being too much, but let’s not worry about that and unpack all the new series and movie announced today at the Disney Investors Call. D23 2019: The Mandalorian Trailer Arrives, Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Announced, and The Clone Wars Set for February 2020

At the D23 Disney+ panel, not only did the above intense first trailer for The Mandalorian arrive, but Ewan McGregor came out to confirm he’s back for an Obi-Wan Kenobi series (!!), and The Clone Wars‘ return was announced for February 2020. They also talked about the Cassian Andor series, though not a lot of details were given for any of the upcoming shows, but head below for what little we did get. Diego Luna Returns as Cassian Andor for Spy TV Series on Disney+

Cassian Andor played by Diego Luna

The Mandalorian won’t be alone on Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney+, as Diego Luna will return to play Cassian Andor in a spy thriller TV series set prior to Rogue One (for obvious reasons…)! This is arguably more exciting to me than The Mandalorian, but we’re getting two live-action TV series, so no complaints here! More details from the press release and some extra thoughts below! UPDATE: Here’s our review of the series’ three episode premiere; follow along here for more reviews as the series airs!
