Tales of the Jedi Review: “Count Dooku”

Originally described as tone poems, Tales of the Jedi is a unique new format for Star Wars animation, featuring 6 short, Visions-length stories primarily framed around Jedi like Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku. Due to the new format, I’ve decided to cover the show a different way, focusing on one character’s series of shorts per article, and this one is all about Dooku’s three shorts. Offering tantalizing new glimpses into the fallen Jedi Master’s past, alongside his Padawan Qui-Gon Jinn, his three shorts are an interesting exploration on what drove the Count to join the Sith, all while thankfully being able to fit within the already fantastic Dooku: Jedi Lost, though his Tales aren’t without their shortcomings. Tales of the Jedi Review: “Ahsoka Tano”

Originally described as tone poems, Tales of the Jedi is a unique new format for Star Wars animation, featuring 6 short, Visions-length stories primarily framed around Jedi like Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku. Due to the new format, I’ve decided to cover the show a different way, focusing on one character’s series of shorts per article, and this one is all about Ahsoka’s three shorts. Overall, I found them to be the weakest set, not even taking into account the way Dave Filoni overwrites previous material and erases representation, while also containing my favorite short. D23 ’22: Tales of the Jedi and Mandalorian S3 Trailers, Bad Batch S2 Out January ’23, and More!

The D23 Expo in 2022 had a few gifts for Star Wars fans, bringing trailers for Tales of the Jedi (see above!) and The Mandalorian‘s third season to the public after holding them hostage back at Celebration Anaheim ’22, a new trailer for the imminent premiere of Andor, The Bad Batch season 2 pushed from the fall to January 2023, our first glimpse at the Jude Law-led Skeleton Crew, and even the initial concepts for the heroes of The High Republic-set Young Jedi Adventures animated show! Tales of the Jedi Panel: First Details, Ahsoka, Dooku, Qui-Gon Jinn And More Confirmed (SWCA 2022)

The newest animation project is Tales of the Jedi, which will consist of 6 tone-poem like episodes focused on two very different characters: Ahsoka Tano and Dooku! Like most panels at Celebration Anaheim 2022, it wasn’t streamed to the general audience and the trailer wasn’t released either, while attendees also got to watch one of the Ahsoka episodes! After seeing a cellphone recording of the trailer and reading through a few live-tweets of the panel, it certainly looks to be an exciting and unique idea, which I hope can be expanded on to include more episodes, more eras, and more characters! Tales of the Jedi will premiere Fall 2022 (so maybe after Andor, just before The Bad Batch season 2?), but head below for some details and images! Celebration Anaheim 2022 Panels Revealed: Tales of the Jedi, High Republic, Bad Batch Season Two, and More!

The full schedule of panels for Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022 has been revealed, teasing tons of big news and reveals, while also confirming a rumor, of all things! Tales of the Jedi was first rumored after images appeared online of a Lucasfilm Production team gift in December 2021 and now the panel listing for Anaheim 2022 confirmed the show’s existence as an animated anthology of shorts. I don’t expect more details until then, besides maybe a tease on May the Fourth this year, but hopefully it’s shorts like Star Wars Visions, with different creatives for each one and longer than the Galaxy of Adventures micro-shorts. Beyond the show’s reveal, there’s confirmation of a The High Republic focused panel, various publishing panels, the Attack of the Clones 20th Anniversary Celebration, Siege of Mandalore screening, and so much more! There’s no word on what we’ll be able to watch from home for those of us who can’t make it this year (breaking my streak by not going!), but head below to check out some of my picks for panels to enjoy so maybe you can start planning accordingly whether you go or not this year!
