Gaming News: Battlefront Classic Collection Arrives March 15!

When the original Battlefront I and II released in the early ‘00’s, while I was playing many video games at that time as I transitioned from grade school to high school, these Star Wars gaming classics consumed much of my time. I tried revisiting Battlefront II on PC (I played them on PlayStation back in the day), ahead of Battlefront II’s (2017) release, and it didn’t quite click like it used to, but it might’ve been more me than how the game had aged. Regardless, they have a special spot in my heart and the announcement of the Battlefront Classic Collection has me excited to try them again when they launch on March 15, with tons of extra content and the multiplayer servers open and ready for battle again. I might not have as much time as I did in 2004/5 to play these now, but if you’re on PlayStation, I’m a trusty fighter to have by your side so make sure to friend me: BrushYourTeeth. Head below for more details and a few screenshots of the updated action! Continue reading “Gaming News: Battlefront Classic Collection Arrives March 15!”

SDCC 2023: Star Wars Outlaws Panel

With the gameplay video living rent free in my head every minute of every day, suffice to say Star Wars Outlaws is one of my most anticipated video games and Star Wars pieces of media. An open-world game where you mix it up with the criminal underworld as fresh but determined Kay Vess, alongside her cute little friend Nix? If the final game is even an ounce like its opening video, we’re in for a treat. At SDCC 2023, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment had a panel about the upcoming release, sharing details like the new criminal syndicate made for the game or there may be cooking, while also showing off the video above, where we see atmospheric video of the new planet Toshara and Kay voice actress Humberly Gonzalez filming mo-cap. Head below for all extra nuggets gleaned from the panel! Continue reading “SDCC 2023: Star Wars Outlaws Panel”

Star Wars: Outlaws Announced, Set for 2024 Release

First announced in January of 2021, Massive Entertainment’s upcoming open-world Star Wars game was officially revealed as Star Wars: Outlaws at Xbox Games Showcase 2023 with a slick CGI cinematic trailer (seen below). I’ve always enjoyed these, and often got very hyped by them back in the day, but I’ve since cooled on them and always wait for gameplay before getting too excited for a game. We didn’t have too wait long from the first trailer thankfully, as the Ubisoft Forward 2023 showcase delivered our first glimpse of scoundrel Kay Vess and (the cutest) Nix in action for Outlaws and it looks absolutely incredible, combing Grand Theft Auto and No Man’s Sky and putting it into a Star Wars game. It’s like something out of a dream, as I’ve been hoping for something like this for a long time and my hype for its release is through the atmosphere. You can see the full gameplay walkthrough above, as it’d be rude to hide it below the cut, but there some additional details below! Final Gameplay Trailer for Jedi: Survivor, Out April 28 (SWCE ’23)

Jedi: Survivor keeps looking absolutely gorgeous every time we see new footage. I can’t wait to learn more about where the story for this will go, especially the potential High Republic Jedi, while the companion combat seems like such an awesome addition. While you wait for April 28, make sure to read Jedi: Battle Scars to find out some of what happened in the 5 year gap between games, and read an interview with game director Stig Asmussen for new screenshots. We hope to have a review up, probably in May, after playing the game!

Jedi: Survivor’s Story Trailer Hypes Up April 28 Release!

With almost a month to go until Jedi: Survivor’s new release date on April 28, Respawn Entertainment unveiled a story trailer which teases some cool new features, highlighted Merrin’s return, and confirmed the game’s The High Republic era connection. Between the excellent interquel novel Jedi: Battle Scars by Sam Maggs, which bridges the two games by fleshing out its characters and where they’re heading for Survivor, and this new trailer, I’m all aboard the hype train for the game (even if random animal murder still features heavily). Check out some new screenshots, the THR connection, and more below the cut! Continue reading “Jedi: Survivor’s Story Trailer Hypes Up April 28 Release!”

Jedi: Survivor Gameplay Trailer Revealed

Thanks to this year’s The Game Awards, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor received its first gameplay trailer, giving us our first look at how the sequel will build off the previous entry’s sold underpinnings while taking advantage of current-gen technology. I’m already bracing for the lack of stealth options and inability to not kill poor, innocent creatures, but everything else I’m seeing in this trailer looks like a beautiful expansion on Fallen Order’s strengths, which Survivor is set 5 years after (at around the same time as Obi-Wan Kenobi). Out March 17, only a week after its prequel novel on April 28 now, a month after Battle Scars, Jedi: Survivor will hit PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Head below for screenshots from the trailer (Cere Junda’s look new look, Cal’s new pal Brode) and pre-order bonuses (leaked and not leaked)! Jedi: Survivor Trailer, 2023 Release Revealed (SWCA 2022)

The moody first teaser for the Jedi: Fallen Order sequel, Jedi: Survivor (confirmed back in January), is more confusing than revealing, but at least BD-1 is in it, so there’s that! Set 5 years after Fallen Order, Survivor promises to expand just about everything from the first, more dynamic planets, lean even heavier into the bond between Cal and BD-1, expand combat even more (please please please stealth options), and more. Ponder of what the teaser means, and check out some screenshots from it below, though at least we won’t have to wait much longer: Jedi: Survivor launches in 2023! Amy Hennig’s Skydance New Media Working On New Star Wars Game

Lucasfilm Games Skydance New Media Announcement Header A

I know I’ve typed a similar headline before, but whereas the last project didn’t quite make it, I have even more faith this time around that Amy Hennig will get to bring her Star Wars game dreams to life. In a collaboration between Lucasfilm Games and Skydance New Media, Amy Hennig is developing a, “…narrative-driven, action-adventure game featuring an original story.” Hennig has some unforgettable and successful games under her belt, from the Legacy of Kain series and of course my favorite, the Uncharted series, and I’ve been hoping we’d get a Star Wars game from her for quite some time. When she was working on the previous game Project Ragtag, alongside actor/writer and frequent collaborator Todd Stashwick, her comments at the Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016 panel (you can see some concept art at the link) about underdogs and team of people relying on one another really stood out to me, though overall you could tell she understood the narrative underpinnings of what makes something Star Wars. With Project Ragtag, decisions by EA higher-ups, the game’s ambitions, and the dwindling team at Visceral Games led to its cancellation (I’ve summed up a complex series of events), but rather than sit back and let the dream get away from her, Hennig went and found someplace else to make it happen, joining and starting her own division at Skydance: Skydance New Media, hence my belief we’ll actually get to see this game. UPDATE: and if the rumors are to be believed, she’s finishing what she started! I don’t expect it for a few more years, as she’s got Forspoken coming out and a Marvel game at her division, so I’m betting maybe 2024-2025ish, but we’ll see and you can bet we’ll have new updates as they come. My biggest hope is the next gaming update is actually addressing the Star Wars Eclipse controversy, but the longer this goes on, the less likely this seems. Anyways, head below before some photos I took with Amy, and later Amy and Todd, at Star Wars Celebrations past! Continue reading “Amy Hennig’s Skydance New Media Working On New Star Wars Game”

Star Wars Gaming Respawns: Jedi Fallen Order Sequel, New FPS, and Strategy Game Announced

Respawn Star Wars Games Incoming

While EA Games lost the exclusive rights to Star Wars games, that doesn’t mean they won’t still be behind some new titles, which Lucasfilm Games and EA confirmed with the news Respawn Entertainment will be leading the charge of new Star Wars games for EA. They have three games in active development, starting with a new Star Wars: Jedi entry, aka a sequel to Jedi – Fallen Order, and two unnamed games, a FPS (or first-person shooter) and a strategy game. For those curious if there’s still an opportunity for Battlefront III, it looks like that’s completely axed and Respawn will exclusively be behind new Star Wars games. It is disappointing Lucasfilm Games didn’t take a moment to address any of the Star Wars Eclipse controversary, instead choosing to announce more games and ignore it, but hopefully there’s a time and place for that soon. Regardless, head below for more details on the upcoming games. Continue reading “Star Wars Gaming Respawns: Jedi Fallen Order Sequel, New FPS, and Strategy Game Announced”

LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga Releasing April 5, New Gameplay Overview Trailer

After what has felt like years of silence, not only did the LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga reappear today as if it was the Death Star popping into the horizon suddenly, it came with the long-awaited release date: April 5, 2022. Alongside the announcement came the extensive, 6-minute video above exploring the giant expansion to the LEGO Star Wars formula, be it an open world structure with story missions from each of the 9 main movies, side missions as well, space battles, the big character list, skill-tree upgrades, and so much more. It really looks like it’ll be worth the several year wait, but like most big games these days unfortunately, it comes with a human cost, documented by the wonderful folks at Polygon in a detailed accounting of the crunch-heavy culture fostered by the company to make this game a reality. It sounds like there is some light on the horizon for the developers, but it doesn’t erase the fact they went through so much to make LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga and it’s something to be conscientious of when enjoying the game come April.
