We’ve known for some time now that The Clone Wars would air its final (again) season on Disney+ this February, but it wasn’t until today we finally learned it’ll drop February 21! The official announcement reveals it’ll cover 3 story arcs, and at 12 episodes total, we’re likely getting 4 episodes an arc, though no word if it’s all dropping Feb 21 or if it’ll be released weekly. After watching the final trailer above, it won’t really matter because my mind, body, and soul will not be ready either way! Head below for some more details on what we might see in The Clone Wars’ final run.
The three arcs are supposed to culminate with the events of Revenge of the Sith, and as you can hear from the trailer, there’s even dialogue from the film, like Mace Windu’s declaration regarding his fears over there being a plot to overthrow the Jedi/Yoda telling the Jedi they must proceed with great care, so it’ll be very interesting to see how much of the film’s events they cover/overlap with.
A lot of the show will focus on Ahsoka’s trials and tribulations after leaving the Order, leading to her taking part in the Siege of Mandalore, seeing her former Master one last time before he becomes Darth Vader. You can read about what she does shortly afterwards in the novel Ahsoka, followed by watching Star Wars Rebels for her time with the Rebellion and epic clash with Vader, and then you’ll have to switch to hoping we’ll learn soon what show she’s in next (before she ends up as a voice in Rey’s ears in The Rise of Skywalker, of course!).
I’m still pretty sure the episodes with Clone Force 99 are going to be fully animated versions of their Bad Batch episodes released previously in an unproduced state, though we only have a month till we know!
And to break my heart all over again, and any other fans of Kanan Jarrus from Rebels, eagle-eyed fans noticed a little Caleb Dume and his Master Depa Billaba in hologram form in the trailer (0:24 mark)! This would place the scene shortly before the first arc of the Kanan comic, where we see the fateful Order 66 destroy young Caleb’s life; which leads to A New Dawn and his fateful meeting with Hera Syndulla, bringing us up to Rebels and then back to more tears with “Jedi Night.” You’re crying, I’m not crying! (At least he got to be one of the voices in TROS as well!)
This won’t be the only TCW content released this year, as August 2020 will hold the release of an anthology middle grade novel that provides new perspectives on episodes we’ve already seen, as announced NYCC 2019. UPDATE: And there’s more! An anthology comic miniseries from IDW, The Clone Wars – Battle Tales, was announced for the month of April, where our favorite clones swap stories about our favorite TCW characters.
We’ll have reviews for the final season as fast as we can write them, though it might be by arc instead of by episode if they are all released on the February 21. UPDATE: The 12 episodes will be released weekly (should’ve guessed, considering this seems to be the Disney+ default), which means we’ll have reviews of each episode. The show will then end, unless they skip a week somewhere, May 8, 2020!
