Extended Star Wars Resistance Trailer Hypes Season One Premiere

With barely over a week until it premieres, an extended sneak peek trailer for Star Wars Resistance‘s first season has been released and it gives us our best look yet at the series’ scope, action-adventure feel, and humor. It also provides first glimpses of some familiar characters (and even a location) from the films in action. Head below for some thoughts on the great new trailer.

Star Wars Resistance Phasma Is In Charge

After the “Meet the Aces” video, I was wondering if we’d get a First Order focused video next, but it seems we will not after this trailer. However, there is plenty of time spent in this video with the nefarious First Order and their plans for the Colossus, as Captain Phasma orders them to destroy it, while Torra Doza’s father, the station’s Captain, seems to hint the FO is behind making the pirates attacking the station a more dangerous force. We finally get to see Major Vonreg, the red-plated TIE pilot, in action, flying what looks like a TIE Advanced, similarly tricked out in red, but both scenes were in space, not set on Colossus. Beyond that, Starkiller Base makes a brief appearance, and I’m curious as all hell how it factors into the show. Maybe there will be a scene where they set up who the FO spy is right away and we have to watch the entire season knowing who it is as our heroes befriend them? Or does this mean General Hux, Kylo Ren, or even Supreme Leader Snoke cameos too? Only time will tell, but Starkiller Base was quite the surprise to see.

Star Wars Resistance Pirates in Flight

I love the look of the various pirates who are attacking the Colossus and I really want to learn more about them. They have a similar look/feel to Enfys Nest’s Cloud Riders, but lean more into a biker gang look, and I don’t suspect they’ll be secret do-gooders like the Cloud Riders were, as the First Order seems to be helping them in a round-about effort to take down the refueling station. Either way, having pirates in the show means our heroes, both Team Fireball and Team Aces, minus whoever is the traitor, can engage in open battle with them, as it’s not until The Force Awakens the First Order and Resistance actually, truly battle. The Poe Dameron comic series managed to avoid outright warfare between the two factions in fun, inventive ways, but this just as elegant a solution. And since it’s more than possible this show will venture past the timeline of TFA and The Last Jedi, seeing as it’s set 6 months prior to TFA, all-out battle with the FO seems very likely as the show goes on.

I’ve already enjoyed what I’ve seen so far for Resistance but this trailer is the best yet, as it conveys the story, focuses on the characters (both new and familiar), and is really jam packed with star fighting action spectacle. If this doesn’t get you interested in the show, I have no idea what else can because this looks like a fun, action-packed show, in a bright, new, intriguing art style and corner of the galaxy far, far away.
