The New Republic searches for new allies in the fight against the Yuuzhan Vong, but their search may end up causing more damage than the Vong ever did…Han’s grief-fueled quest continues in Agents of Chaos: Jedi Eclipse!

New Jedi Order Agents of Chaos Heros Jedi Eclipse CoverSometimes, in war, it’s about who you know and who you can ask for help. But war isn’t just about winning: when the Force is on your side, you have to win correctly. And in the war against the Yuuzhan Vong, the New Republic might be learning that lesson the hard way. Unfortunately, efforts ran by Han Solo and Leia Organa to save lives end up side-tracked…much to the hurt of the New Republic.

Leia Organa-Solo, former Chief-of-State, now runs efforts designed to aid refugees fleeing from either their own destroyed planets or from the threat of the Yuuzhan Vong. The longer that the war drags on, and as more planets like Sernpidal and Ithor are destroyed, more and more people become displaced. Han Solo, somewhere else in the galaxy, is trying to save his old smuggler friends, even though some seemed to have turned and work with the Vong now.

The Yuuzhan Vong’s endless invasion into the known galaxy continues, and the New Republic seems just as paralyzed in the battle as they were before. Despite Han Solo’s valiant efforts, which resulted in his saving of a Ryn, a species especially affected by the Vong, the Vong have moved more toward the Inner Rim. As they attack, and win a battle on the planet Gyndine, the Vong are finally seen as a threat by the New Republic. The New Republic has already asked the Imperial Remnant for help and Grand Admiral Pallaeon has brought in reluctanct support from fellow Imperial leaders. Now, Leia Organa-Solo moves to ask for help of the Hapes Cluster. Leia’s past with Hapes Prince Isolder, to put it diplomatically, might allow for the aloof Cluster to aid the New Republic in the fight against the Vong. The request becomes harder to manage, though, when Leia has a vision of the destruction of the Hapan fleet. Isolder ignores the warning, continuing into battle instead.

But the New Republic does not look only to the Hapans and Imperials. Unfortunately, they seek out a vile source of help: Centerpoint Station, a weapon that was designed to wreak havoc on hyperspace. After being used by Corellia in an effort to bolster their power in their sector, and eventually the galaxy, Jedi Knight Anakin Solo was instrumental in turning the station off. Now, the New Republic hopes he and the Jedi will help use the weapon to finally end the threat of the Vong. Since Anakin was the one who shut off the machine, the New Republic believes that he is the best one to turn it back on.

These aren’t the only subterfuges and new allies that are being made in the war. Jedi Knight Wurth Skidder, operating without a supervisory council, lets himself be captured by the Yuuzhan Vong in an effort to figure out how to stop them. He bonds with a yammosk, the organic being that controls their war effort, but it doesn’t do him any good when his secret identity as a Jedi is exposed. The Hutts also try and form a treaty with the Yuuzhan Vong, believing that giving an air of working with the Vong would help them survive.

But the Hutts are duplicitous beings, as the Republic has learned before. In the early days of the Clone War, Jedi Knights Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano worked with the Hutts to open their hyperspace lanes for the Republic’s exclusive use. Jabba the Hutt began to work with the Republic, eventually using their help to capture (and release) his uncle, Ziro the Hutt. Now, the Hutts seem eager (in their own way) to work with the New Republic and feed Vong information to the Senate. The Senate then believes, based on the evidence provided by the Hutts, that the Vong will attack Corellia next.

The data seems to be useless, as the Vong know the reputation of the Hutts. Instead of attacking Corellia, or any system that the New Republic had believed that they would invade, the Vong attack the Fondor shipyards. These shipyards are fundamental to the New Republic’s fleet and a loss there would cripple the war effort. Anakin Solo does restore Centerpoint Station to operation, handing the proverbial keys to his uncle, Thracken Sal-Solo. Thracken uses the weapon to terrible degrees: the Vong take heavy damage, but so do the ships in the Hapan fleet. The Hapan fleet is decimated, and Prince Isolder is humiliated. Thracken, unfortunately, is considered a hero, but a major ally in the war threatens to withhold further support due to the massive damage they took.

Unfortunately, Han’s trip also ends with some tragedy. He is able to save Roa, with the help of Jedi Knights Kyp Durron and Ganner Rhysode, but Jedi Wurth Skidder joins the living Force. As the New Republic licks its many wounds, Leia turns her sights to Duro. But the New Republic is on the precipice of destruction, both from the inside and the outside, and our heroes need desperately to find a balance point…
