As the merciless Yuuzhan Vong directly threaten the safety of refugees from across the galaxy, the Solo kids come up with a daring plan to cripple the Vong from the inside. The stakes are higher than ever in the latest Legendary Adventures, Star by Star!
The Jedi know what it’s like to be hunted. Almost 60 years ago, the Sith Lord Darth Sidious launched a daring strike at the heart of the Jedi Order, almost wiping them out entirely in one day. Now, the Yuuzhan Vong, a dangerous extra-galactic threat cut off from the Cosmic Force, are hunting the Jedi on their own. After suffering defeat at the hands of Jedi many times, like on Ithor or Yavin IV, the Vong are taking the fight directly to the Jedi with Jedi-hunting creatures called voxyn. Jedi Alena Rar is attacked by them, and her sister is killed by one of the creatures. The voxyn come from a worldship orbiting the planet Myrkr, where the Vong are cloning animals that have a natural connection with the Force.
The Jedi and New Republic come up with a two-pronged plan designed to take the fight back to the Vong, and they both see moderate successes, thankfully. Lando Calrissian leads a design project to create battle droids called Yuuzhan Vong Hunters. These Hunters are modelled after the Vong, similar to the way that B-1 Battle Droids were once modelled after their Geonosian creators. These Hunters are equipped with weaponry that is strong enough to physically harm the Vong in a way that they’ve never been able to be hurt before. This starts to turn around the long losing streak that has beset the New Republic, and the Vong’s Coreward expanse is temporarily blocked. The second part of the plan is to send a Jedi strikeforce into the heart of the worldship, destroying the source of the voxyn. The Solo children reject the help of Luke Skywalker, due to his prominent status as a Jedi Master, and lead a team of Jedi into the worldship to try and cripple the effort.
The plan, led by the Solo children, quickly turns south. After being turned over to the Yuuzhan Vong by Lando Calrissian (as part of the ruse this time, not like Cloud City!), the Jedi are able to fight their way into the worldship. As the Jedi progress into the Vong’s ship, the Jedi seem to make progress until they hit a wall of Vong. Anakin Solo, the youngest of the Solo children, recently overcoming his grief for both the death of Chewbacca and the use of Centerpoint Station, sacrifices himself for the rest of the team, allowing them to escape. Jacen Solo is aided by the mysterious Vergere, a Fosh, and destroys the voxyn queen.
A similar plan is being carried out on Coruscant. Really, the Vong are carrying out a few plans that could be considering something like “last ditch effort.” The Vong aim their terraforming efforts at Coruscant itself, sending agents into the former Imperial Palace. This is covered by a Vong air raid, one which almost claims the lives of Mara Jade and Luke Skywalker. The Palace raid does claim the life of Chief of State Borsk Fey’lya, one of Leia’s greatest political opponents. Fey’lya’s sacrifice takes 25,000 Vong out, but doesn’t take out the leadership like they had hoped it would. Finally, it becomes Ben Skywalker’s turn to escape a kidnapping attempt, but that is foiled by Princess Leia.
Both sides have been heavily crippled by the effort. The Vong suffer the loss of one of their greatest weapons and a huge loss of their forces. But the Skywalker and Solo families may be suffering more, losing Anakin Solo to death and Jacen Solo to capture. The mysterious Vergere is with him…but can she be trusted? Jaina Solo goes on a dark journey to find them…and maybe even save herself.
