Fresh off of Jon Favreau, writer and executive producer of The Mandalorian, revealing the title of his live-action series and a brief synopsis, the official site has revealed the first image and named some exciting directors for the series. Check below for the first details on the first live-action Star Wars TV show!

“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”
One day later, the official site revealed the first image (above!) of the series and one can easily assume this is likely the titular warrior the synopsis teases, but it remains to be seen for certain. They’ve also dropped the names of several directors for the series and it’s quite the amazing list! First off, Dave Filoni, yup, the very same of The Clone Wars/Star Wars Rebels and cowboy hat fame, is directing the very first episode! The names get bigger from there with: Bryce Dallas Howard, who you might recognize from the recent Jurassic World films, who previously directed Solemates, and whose dad recently directed some little film named Solo: A Star Wars Story; Rick Famuyiwa (Dope); Deborah Chow, whose directed episodes in Jessica Jones, Lost in Space, and Better Call Saul; and Taika Waititi (!!), who broke it mainstream with Thor: Ragnarok, but his movies prior, like Hunt for the Wilderpeople, make him one of the funniest and most intriguing directors around. What makes this list so damn exciting besides the names is the swath of diversity it covers, including the very first female directors for any Star Wars content (besides Ep. IX‘s Victoria Mahoney as Second Unit Director), as well as the first POC directors as well! Hopefully we’ll get a female director for a film in the future as well, but this is a giant, wonderful step in the right direction. It’ll be executive produced by Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and co-executive produced by Karen Gilchrist.
A lot of this news broke first, where else, at Making Star Wars, where the super-sleuths were the first to reveal the show was in production, that a MCU director and Dave Filoni were on the directors shortlist, and a whole bunch of other details (including it would be about Mandalorians in the first place).
Lucasfilm’s Creative Art Director, Phil Szostak, mercilessly teased us today about getting to see the concept art for The Mandalorian. To be a fly on his office’s wall…
