Announced back in March, we’ve since seen two of the six Pride Month covers coming from Marvel in June, and now all six have been revealed! They’re a gorgeous collection of some of the Saga’s finest LGBTQ+ characters to date, like Doctor Aphra, Yrica Quell, Grand Admiral Sloane, Lando Calrissian, Sana Starros, and twins Ceret and Terec. Head below to check out all the fabulous art and make sure to pick these up when they hit store shelves in June!
As truly excited I am for these covers and how happy they’ve chosen to represent the LGBTQ+ community this way, it would be remiss not to mention some of the choices here have complicated details behind their inclusion. For Lando, he’s considered pan-sexual thanks to an interview with one of the writers on Solo: A Star Wars Story, but there’s been no follow-through in any canon work to back-up the claim, so his inclusion feels a little hallow at the moment. Grand Admiral Sloane also doesn’t have much precedence, beyond a line in one of the Aftermath books, though seems more coded ace than anything else. And Ceret and Terec are obviously well-meaning non-binary representation, but it has some work to do regardless. Hopefully the inclusion of Lando and Sloane, without much content reveling in their identities as LGBTQ+ yet, means stories are on the horizon which will start to make things right.
Otherwise, Doctor Aphra, Sana Starros, and recently Yrica Quell all have tons of precedence for inclusion in this list of covers. Obviously Aphra and Sana dated, which we finally saw last year in her audiobook, while Quell’s…well, you need to read Alphabet Squadron: Victory’s Price (which you should because it’s so dang good!). Otherwise, the rainbow Star Wars logo on these covers is dang nifty!
