New Jedi: Fallen Order Trailer Dives into Story, Mysteries

After June’s gameplay walkthrough, we’ve been due for a new trailer for Jedi: Fallen Order, November 15’s upcoming single-player Star Wars video game, and this one does not disappoint in the slightest: from big creepy creatures to battle, the Second Sister’s restless pursuit, Cere and Greez rescuing Cal, and all the cool, ancient Jedi discovery stuff Cal looks to get up to, there’s a lot more here than first met the eyes in its initial reveal. Dive below for some extra thoughts, including one stemming from the game’s prequel comic tie-in!

In the prequel comic Jedi: Fallen Order – Dark Temple, Cere Junda is seen as a padawan during her time with the pre-Order 66 Jedi Order, training under Jedi Master Eno Cordova. There’s a framing story in the series that’s set closer to the events of the game, post-Order 66, following the Second Sister, the game’s main antagonist, but so far neither have quite revealed any connections. However, of interest is Eno Cordova, drawn to specifically look like actor Tony Amendola in the comic, meaning he has to have some type of role in the game because they wouldn’t make the resemblance for kicks, but so far he hasn’t shown up in any pre-release content. What role will he play? UPDATE: Upon further watching, Cal is watching a hologram around the 52 second mark and it kind of looks like Eno from the back. We shall see!

As exciting as this trailer was, it’s still disappointing Cal Kestis ended up as another white, male hero, as this highlights there’s nothing in the game that couldn’t be done by an alien character or other gender. At the very least, Cameron Monaghan is a fantastic actor and his excitement to be in the game and Star Wars universe is infectious, as seen on the recent Triple Force Friday toy reveal, where this trailer also debuted.

Also, I jumped in excitement when the imposing Ninth Sister Inquisitor appeared on screen, as she was one of my favorites after being introduced in the pages of Darth Vader – Dark Lord of the Sith, which is also where the Second Sister made her first appearance. I hope Nine is just as sassy in the game as she was in the comics! As for the Second Sister’s voice over, I really can’t wait to learn who is doing the voice, as it’s creepy fantastic, and while it doesn’t quite sound like Barriss Offee, which the popular theory on Second’s identity pegs her as, Anakin Skywalker never sounded like James Earl Jones till he joined the dark side…just saying!

Lastly, I just started playing Control, a third person action game with intense world-building, your character gets some Force-like abilities as she battles supernatural enemies, and it has a Metroidvania-like progression system (which means as you level up, you can return to places you’ve been and unlock new areas). Jedi: Fallen Order will have a similar progression and leveling up system, and Force-related abilities, and I can only hope it’s even an ounce as good as Control, as the game is addicting and spelling binding.

Look for Fallen Order November 15!
