Novel News: New Padmé Novel May 2020, Thrawn Prequel Trilogy Title & Cover

Queens Peril and Thrawn Ascendancy Chaos Rising Announcements

We’ll already be celebrating 40 years of The Empire Strikes Back in May 2020, but it’ll be full of novels from all over the Saga as well. The previously announced Thrawn Ascendancy Trilogy begins in May, and we now have a title and stark cover, while newly announced Queen’s Peril, a prequel to E.K. Johnston’s Queen’s Shadow, will also arrive!

There’s not a whole lot of details for either right now, but another E.K. Johnston book focusing on Padmé and the handmaidens is like a gift from the Force itself! Queen’s Shadow released earlier this year and I absolutely enjoyed it, as it was the novel Padmé deserved 20 years since her introduction, so going back a bit and focusing on her Queen days from the same author seems like a no-brainer hit to me! Check out the cover art from Tara Phillips below, and read the vague interview with Johnston at the official site. The book arrives May 5, 2020.

Timothy Zahn’s next Thrawn-related trilogy will be a prequel that explores his rise through the Chiss Ascendancy’s ranks, and it’s first novel now has a title: Thrawn Ascendancy Book 1: Chaos Rising. When this was announced at NYCC this year, my disappointment with Thrawn: Treason has hindered my excitement for this book, but one of my main problems with the most recent Thrawn Trilogy was never enough Chiss, so this looks to be fixing that problem. As for some extra details on the book, Chaos is the Chiss term for the Unknown Regions and the Nine Ruling families will be part of the story. The book also arrives May 5, 2020.
