Moving to Wednesdays, Star Wars Rebels’ second season begins October 14 (8:30PM CT) with, “The Lost Commanders,” Lucasfilm officially announced earlier today, while the first two episodes will screen at NYCC a few days before. Thoughts on the footage, the site’s description of what to expect from the new season, and my reviews of the previous episodes below.

In Star Wars Rebels Season Two, past lives will be revealed and the destiny of our heroes will be changed forever. The transformative new season resumes with Imperial oppression on Lothal growing stronger and the Rebels seeking out new allies and additional resources to sustain their fight against the evil Empire. With the help of Ahsoka Tano, the crew of the Ghost enlists some old friends: ex-clone troopers who fought in the Clone Wars. As the Rebels grow in number, so do their enemies. New Inquisitors are dispatched by Darth Vader and sent to crush any threat of rebellion. Through dangerous rescue missions, thrilling space chases, and spectacular lightsaber duels — the bond of our Rebel crew will be put to the test like never before.
Almost gets the heart pounding like the last trailer did back in April.
As for the new clip, I was just as surprised as the Ghost crew regarding Ahsoka Tano having an old Clone Wars era tactical droid’s head. How and why it’ll help the crew find Rex, Wolffe, and Gregor in the Ceelo system is beyond me, but it should be interesting. But also, why/how has Ahsoka kept one for so long?
However, bigger moments from the clip come from Ahsoka’s brief reminiscence and her warning to Kanan. When Ahsoka mentions her Master in a melancholy type of way, it not only sent some chills up my spine, but damn if it didn’t tug at my heartstrings. Judging by her next comment, it seems like she might have sensed Vader is Anakin from their momentus connection in “Siege of Lothal,” but she isn’t quite sure/just can’t believe it yet. Here’s hoping we get to follow her on her mission to uncover the truth behind the Sith Lord as some point in the show.
Ahsoka’s warning to Kanan about trusting her friend strikes more potently after the events in the first arc of the Kanan comic series. He’s seen and suffered through Order 66 first hand, psychologically affecting him ever since, and the clones obviously don’t have a warm place in his heart. Even without reading the comics I’m sure that’ll come across as clear as the Tatooine sky, but having read them will add an extra weight to his meeting with the surviving clones. Kanan’s likely distrust was teased back at Celebration Anaheim by Dave Filoni himself, as well as how The Clone Wars‘ S6 Order 66 certainly planted the seed which leads to Rex being free by the time of Rebels.
While we still don’t know who Sarah Michelle Geller is playing in the upcoming season, the official site mentioned her in the press release so perhaps her role is bigger than we expected (and she had some fun teasing us all on Instagram recently). Expect a lot more details at NYCC in October.
