Star Wars Squadrons Gameplay Revealed!

Thanks to the Star Wars: Squadrons gameplay reveal at EA Play 2020, we now know the game will basically be the modern day spiritual successor to flight games of yesteryear, like Rogue Squadron or X-wing vs TIE Fighter! The initial reveal trailer was exciting, but I always wait until gameplay videos before I know if I should properly be eager to play a game and Squadrons’ newest trailer took me from, “Sure, maybe” to “Yes, please, immediately,” on its October 2 release. Head below for some great little surprises in the trailer, involving a certain novel-centric character, and other details.

Squadrons Cockpit Overlay Reveal

While we knew Hera would be in the game from the initial trailer, she speaks in this one and it’s clear one of the best things about her Star Wars Rebels time has carried over: Vanessa Marshall returns to voice Hera! Having movie characters in games doesn’t always mean the actor will voice them, but a prolific and excellent voice actress like Marshall can continue to return to Hera as often as possible. Her reveal was fantastic, though not surprising considering the era, 6 months after Return of the Jedi/Battle of Endor, but a different character’s reveal certainly came as a wonderful surprise: Rae Sloane!! Sloane first appeared in the original canon novel, A New Dawn, and she’s since been a favorite of many fans, including me, due to her strong sense of morals while working for the Empire, and her rise in the ranks, all the way to Grand Admiral, has been a blast to watch! More Rae Sloane will forever be appreciated. I was going to focus on the single-player regardless, and this is a great justification to do so, as is the split perspectives between Imperial and New Republic pilots.

UPDATE: Turns out the Databank has been updated with some characters and ships from Squadrons!

Squadrons Destruction Looks Gorgeous

The official site has a great little behind-the-scenes article about how Squadrons came to be, as well as some new screenshots and other little details. I’m most intrigued to see how the ability to switch power (like we see so many SW pilots do) from shields, lasers, or engines will effect gameplay, in single and multiplayer, as well as how easy it is to do so.

Pick it up on Xbox One, PS4, PC, and VR on October 2 for $39.99. If you want to join my squad or destroy mine, add me on PS4, my username is currently “BrushYourTeeth.”
