Canon Novel Review: The Princess and the Scoundrel

star wars princess and scoundrel review mynockmanor

– Spoiler-Free Review –

We’re all cordially invited to the wedding of Han Solo and Princess Leia and not even a honeymoon set on the Halcyon, aka the real-world Star Wars hotel, is enough to derail what a delight The Princess and the Scoundrel ends up becoming, as author Beth Revis deeply explores the titular duo through some pivotal emotional beats, all while providing exciting action and romance like only these two could produce. The Princess and the Scoundrel’s Beautiful Cover Revealed

star wars princess and scoundrel cover revealed

Beth Revis’ The Princess and the Scoundrel, which will reveal Princess Leia and Han Solo’s wedding (and their crazy honeymoon on the Halcyon), now has a gorgeous painted cover by Oliver Cuthbertson! It’s got some The Courtship of Princess Leia vibes going for it, but far more modern, sleeker, and more gorgeous overall. Head below for the full cover and make sure to return to the Manor on August 16 for our review (it might be earlier, depending on the embargo) and any coverage we can get from the panel at Celebration Anaheim 2022. RSVP for Han and Leia’s Wedding In The Princess and The Scoundrel Novel, Out August 16

Princess-And-Scoundrel-Announcement

Whether you have Valentine’s Day plans or not, Star Wars is celebrating the day by announcing a new novel, written by Beth Revis, which brings to page the wedding of Han Solo and Princess Leia: The Princess and The Scoundrel, out August 16! It’s rather exciting this moment will play out on the page, where a great author like Beth Revis can dig into all the nuances of what will be banter-filled wedding for the ages (she tested out the lines with her husband!). I really enjoyed the slice of life she brought to Rogue One’s Jyn Erso in Rebel Rising so I imagine she’ll bring the same magic of focus and excitement here, though having their honeymoon set on the Halcyon, the hotel resort experience at Disney Parks, is disappointing because it feels really forced for such a big, momentous moment but I trust Revis to make it feel natural. Head below for the full invitation and check back here when we have more details, like a cover, and then later our review! Novel Review: From a Certain Point of View – The Empire Strikes Back

From a Certain Point of View The Empire Strikes Back Mynock Manor Review

The idea for the original From a Certain Point of View garnered tons of attention for its nearly endless possibilities to reshape such classic films, giving them new life even 40 years after their debut. Thankfully it seems to be a tradition, at least for now since the prequels won’t have the opportunity for another 20 years (and let’s not even talk about how old I’d be when the sequels would hit the milestone…), to take the original trilogy films and retell them from new, interesting, and unexpected points of view, which brings us to From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back. Stronger across the board in its stories, with more consistently engaging tales and original or surprising points of view, and a far more coherent structure from one tale to next, From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back does not fall short of its source material, doing it justice by being such a great and memorable sequel. Canon Comic Review: Star Wars Adventures – Forces of Destiny (#1-5)

Star Wars Adventures Forces of Destiny v3
Elsa Charretier Variant Covers

When it was first announced the younger marketed Star Wars Adventures comics from IDW would have a Forces of Destiny tie-in miniseries, a show itself great for the same audience the comic reached, it felt like a match made in Cloud City. Now that all five issues of the female-centric miniseries have released, all written by female creatives, I can honestly say it belongs among the clouds, despite a few minor missteps that won’t really matter to core readers of the event series. Novel Review: From a Certain Point of View – Star Wars

Star Wars From a Certain Point of View

Minor Spoiler Review –

There have been short story collections in the Star Wars universe before, but nothing quite like this! From a Certain Point of View gathers together 43 authors for 40 stories giving us new perspectives on Episode IV: A New Hope, as a celebration of the film’s 40th Anniversary (bonus: all the author proceeds go to the charity First Book!). In short, the stories within had me crying, laughing, and filled me up with joyous wonder, much like A New Hope did and continues to do 40 years later, which is a pretty fitting way to celebrate the 40th anniversary, if you ask me! Canon Young Adult Novel Review: Rebel Rising

Rebel Rising

Spoiler Review –

Rebel Rising by Beth Revis is an excellently told tale about Jyn Erso’s life, set between the opening flashback of Rogue One and her being broke out of prison on Wobani by the Rebellion, while its Young Adult moniker should be ignored if that typically scares you away from a book because RR really highlights the harsher realities of the journey Jyn goes on.
