After Qi’ra’s big comic trilogy taking over Star Wars comics came to a close earlier this year, we find ourselves at the next comic crossover event, though it goes in a much different, horror-focused direction. With Dark Droids #1, writer Charles Soule and artist Luke Ross kick off the big event by introducing us to the dastardly force ready to sweep across the droids of the galaxy and those who might rise up against it, leaving many of my concerns prior to this release in the dust along the way. At this age in my life, I don’t really expect a ton of gifts in my birthday month, instead looking forward to spending time with friends and family. While I don’t expect gifts, I always hope Star Wars comics will have some for me and October 2023 certainly does, as well as what are totally not gifts and are leaving me shaking in my Manor best robes. On the gift side, there’s some big droid showdowns in Artoo’s quest to save Threepio, The High Republic returns with what looks to be a impactful issue, Doctor Aphra and Magna Tolvan get back together….only for Magna to become a Scourge-infect gremlin?! And there’s going to be more Lando and Lobot drama that I’m sure my heart can handle anymore? High Republic Show: Burryaga Lives, The Eye of Darkness Cover Revealed

After much hype and circumstance, the latest The High Republic Show finally arrives with the promise of revealing Burryaga’s fate. It was a foregone conclusion they wouldn’t center a big hype train on revealing his fate only for him to be dead, but it was still very reassuring when host Krystina Arielle brought the good word: Burry Lives!! We’ll find out how in Tales of Light and Life (out September 5, available at SDCC early, and ebook releasing July 25), likely via Charles Soule’s story called “All Jedi Walk Their Own Path,” which we already knew would center on Bell Zettifar’s tireless search for his friend. Beyond the good news, we got a reveal of the cover for The Eye of Darkness, George Mann’s opening novel to Phase III, as well as a promise of at least one reveal at the SDCC Lucasfilm Publishing Panel on July 21! Star Wars comics’ September 2023 is going to be quite an interesting month, because if you’re not that interested in another crossover from Marvel, your only other options are adaptations of TV shows, including a newly announced one for Obi-Wan Kenobi. Dark Horse offers what is sure to be some good frights, as well as the return of Quinlan Vos to comics, so exploring their output will give you a little more variety, otherwise saddle up for Dark Droids, the unexpected reformation of D-Squad, tons of Scourged droids, more Lando and Lobot drama, and…General Grievous?! High Republic News: Shadows of Starlight Comic Announced

Shadows of Starlight revealed

At the Celebration Europe 2023 High Republic panel, there was tons of big reveals, like all the novel names for Phase III and the fact Vernestra Rwoh would somehow be in The Acolyte show, but one moment left a big question mark for fans: what was the mysterious yet to be announced title set for October?! Well, wait no longer, as This Week! In Star Wars revealed it’s an upcoming 4-issue comic miniseries, written by Charles Soule with art by Ibraim Roberson, titled Shadows of Starlight. It covers the year gap between Phase I and Phase III, focusing on different characters each issue, starting with the Jedi Order’s High Council, then Avar Kriss and Elzar Mann, next is Bell Zettifar, and lastly, Marchion Ro!
