Comic News: Shadow of Vader Miniseries Cancelled

Shadow of Vader Cancellation News

Announced back at NYCC, the Shadow of Vader miniseries from writer Chuck Wendig has had an eventful last few months, notably when Marvel, through editor Mark Paniccia, made the cowardly move to fire Wendig, thus placing the series in limbo. Now, both Polygon and io9 have received word from inside sources the series is officially cancelled, as Marvel made a terrible bed for themselves and had to lay in it too, deciding to take the easy street and cancel it instead of dealing with non-complicated things like rehiring Wendig, considering the outrage over his latest tweet storm, which got him fired, was orchestrated by bots and not real humans. It’s a damn shame, as there were some delightful ideas and concepts to come from the series, and it all fell through because of an editor appeasing Nazis and their bots. Head below for more details on what happened, what we would’ve got in the series, and Wendig’s comments on the cancellation. Continue reading “Comic News: Shadow of Vader Miniseries Cancelled”

Novel Review: From a Certain Point of View – Star Wars

Star Wars From a Certain Point of View

Minor Spoiler Review –

There have been short story collections in the Star Wars universe before, but nothing quite like this! From a Certain Point of View gathers together 43 authors for 40 stories giving us new perspectives on Episode IV: A New Hope, as a celebration of the film’s 40th Anniversary (bonus: all the author proceeds go to the charity First Book!). In short, the stories within had me crying, laughing, and filled me up with joyous wonder, much like A New Hope did and continues to do 40 years later, which is a pretty fitting way to celebrate the 40th anniversary, if you ask me! Star Wars University: LGBTQ+ in a Galaxy Far, Far Away and Chuck Wendig Writer Seminar (SWCO 2017)

At Celebration Orlando 2017, there were a new breed of panels on what was dubbed the University stage and each one had an eye on educating fans about a great many deal of different topics, whether it be how to write novels/comics or how inclusion and representation matters/still needs to be improved. I didn’t go to as many as I would’ve liked, but the two that I did were particularly interesting and sometimes eye-opening. I first saw Chuck Wendig’s class on writing characters in novels and shortly after saw the LGBTQ+ panel, where they connected in certain ways due to Wendig’s inclusive-minded writing and how most of the representation added to canon since Disney took over is something to be happy about, but could certainly be more and it all starts with characters. A Certain Point of View Celebrates 40 Years of Star Wars: A New Hope

Star Wars From a Certain Point of ViewThursday evening, Del Rey (at their @DelReyStarWars account) stirred up Star Wars fandom on Twitter by teasing the announcement of something called Operation Blue Milk. The hashtag, #OperationBlueMilk quickly blew up with speculation followed by various authors, some new and old to SW writing, revealing they were part of the project. While Amazon might have beat Del Rey to the official announcement, the details have finally been released and it’s a pretty exciting surprise: 40 different authors retelling events from A New Hope from random background characters’ points of view! Whether or not this is your cup of caf, you should probably pick this up because not only is the talent involved nothing short of spectacular, all author proceeds are being donated to charity (!!) so read on for the list and more details! Canon Novel Review: Aftermath: Empire’s End

Aftermath: Empire's End

Spoiler Review –

Just shy of one and a half years after the first book, Chuck Wendig brings not only the Empire to an end, but also his enjoyable Aftermath Trilogy, setting the stage and tone for the stories yet to be told in the 30 plus year gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. As far as finales goes, Empire’s End is an excellent ending, rounding out fulfilling and memorable character arcs (for both new and old characters), answering several burning questions (which come with their own new questions for the future of Star Wars storytelling to unfold), and bringing its overarching trilogy plot to a satisfying conclusion. Canon Novel Review: Aftermath: Life Debt

Aftermath Life Debt

Spoiler Review –

Aftermath: Life Debt, written by Chuck Wendig, is the middle piece of his Aftermath Trilogy. Life Debt‘s ability to give purpose to the first book’s randomness, provide the original characters more room to shine, deepening and answering several mysteries, and written with what seems like a less chaotic style (I quite like Wendig’s style either way) help make it better than its predecessor. Being the middle book has its drawbacks though, but the exciting set up for the coming finale prevents any of those drawbacks from truly affecting enjoyment of the novel.
