To the Edge and Back Again: A Mynock’s Adventures to Galaxy’s Edge

Galaxys Edge Visit Mynock Manor

There’s not a clear point where it really hit me, and even weeks later it still feels more like a dream, that I was on Batuu, a planet in the galaxy far, far away of which I’d been dreaming of, reading about, and enjoying my whole life, when I visited Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World with my wife and our friends in late February, but I left it knowing I’d love a chance to go back. In many ways, it lived up to my expectations (which weren’t too high), the rides really blew me away, the “citizens” of Batuu were integral to the experience, and I even cried making a lightsaber, but in the end it’s still unavoidable to know you’re in a park and you’ll likely need more than one trip to truly take it all in and fully enjoy it. Featurette for VR Game Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge Released, New Details

The next Star Wars VR project from ILMxLAB is Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge for the Oculus, out sometime later this year. It sounds like it will live up to the Tales moniker, as a bartender tells players stories and you get to live them out, while also avoiding the Guavian Death Gang between rounds of space darts or hanging out with porgs. Bobby Moynihan (Star Wars Resistance’s Orca) will play bartender Seezelslak while Debra Wilson (Jedi: Fallen Order’s Cere Junda) plays the pirate Tara Rashin, a member of the Guavian Death Gang. The player character is a droid repair technician, so expect there to be some droid building to be had as well. It sounds like a fun way for those unable, unwilling, already been, or never able to go to Galaxy’s Edge to get a small slice of the park, though the barrier to entry on VR happens to be expensive in it own right but I imagine it’ll come to more platforms than Oculus, much like Vader Immortal did when it arrived on the cheaper PSVR. Check out some concert art below! Continue reading “Featurette for VR Game Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge Released, New Details”

Canon Novel Review: Galaxy’s Edge – Black Spire

Black Spire

Spoiler Review –

Galaxy’s Edge: Black Spire, written by Delilah S. Dawson, is the last big park tie-in content, doing the heavy work of setting up how and why Vi Moraldi and the Resistance are facing off with Supreme Leader Kylo Ren and the First Order on a little backwater planet Batuu that you, dear reader, can visit. Unfortunately, in doing so, the novel forgoes a lot of opportunities and comes up short in overall entertainment. Continue reading “Canon Novel Review: Galaxy’s Edge – Black Spire”

Canon Comic Miniseries Review: Galaxy’s Edge

Galaxy's Edge Miniseries Review

– Spoiler Review –

Opening up the first ever Star Wars theme park is quite the big deal, so of course to both build up the location within the universe and hype up the park, a publishing program launched, including the 5-issue miniseries, Galaxy’s Edge. Written by Ethan Sacks, with art by Will Sliney and Dono Sánchez-Almara, the comic explores the background to several objects within Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities, tying them into a ‘present’ set heist story for the mythical Sword of Khashyun. While full of some intriguing and fun tales with familiar characters, Galaxy’s Edge doesn’t spend enough time at the park, meaning the heist or new characters don’t steal the show. Canon Young Adult Novel Review: A Crash of Fate

A Crash of Fate

– Spoiler Review –

A Crash of Fate is a young adult novel written by Zoraida Córdova as part of the Galaxy’s Edge tie-in program, taking place primarily at the park’s in-universe location, following two old friends who cross paths again in a romantic and danger filled day-long adventure. The romance is never too heavy handed, the adventure that weaves them across Black Spire Outpost is engaging and fun, and the characters are relatable, but sometimes the park aspect gets a little too on the nose, though overall it results in an enjoyable and unique little tale. Galaxy's Edge #3

– Spoiler Review –

If you haven’t yet or won’t be anytime soon enjoying the Galaxy’s Edge theme park, then I can honestly say issue #3 of the park’s tie-in comic miniseries might be its best yet, as it connects to the park in a more meaningful way than the previous issues, while some familiar faces (including a BIG favorite of mine) add even more fun.
