Video Game Review: Telltale’s Game of Thrones, Ep. 5: “A Nest of Vipers”

Telltale's Game of Thrones "A Nest of Vipers"

Spoiler Review –

“A Nest of Vipers” is another great and solid entry in Telltale’s Game of Thrones series, where strangely enough the big reveal we were all waiting for–who the traitor in the Forrester small council is–turns out be a letdown, while the ending provides about as much a shock as the first episode’s ending. With this being the penultimate episode, the choices you make (and have made) will result in varying differences in each player’s final episode, which is what you really want and hope a game from Telltale can deliver.

(UPDATE: I won’t be reviewing this series any more, nor its finale, which I finally completed two years later. It, like much of this series, was rather lackluster, and left me feeling like most of my decisions didn’t matter as there was an outcome planned anyways. The North Grove? Not explained beyond there being creepy magic to help slay the White Walkers. By the end, at least for me, the Forrester family has less members alive then the Starks and they are no where near as important. There will be a second season, so if you enjoyed this then don’t fret there’s more to come, but I’d be doubtful to return as I’ll be too busy watching the show or re-reading the books (or reading a new one, if George R.R .Martin ever gets one out!). Good luck playing and thanks for checking out the Manor; stay awhile for our primary focus, Star Wars, if you’d like!)

Telltale's Game of Thrones Ep. 4: "Sons of Winter"

Spoiler Review –

“Sons of Winter” delivers some great moments worthy of the Game of Thrones name and is easily the best episode of Telltale’s series yet, but it doesn’t always feel like your choices have true weight, at least as far as the plot is concerned.

Video Game Review: Telltale’s Game of Thrones, Ep. 3: “The Sword in the Darkness”

Telltale's Game of Thrones

Spoiler Review –

“The Sword in the Darkness” picks up some of the slack created in “The Lost Lords” by giving characters and players increasingly difficult choices to make, while expanding roles and adding whole heaps of mystery by digging into the fantasy side of Game of Thrones.

Video Game Review: Telltale’s Game of Thrones, Ep. 2: “The Lost Lords”

Telltale's Game of Thrones

Spoiler Review

After the shocking death at the end of the last episode, “The Lost Lords” had a lot to live up to. And while it doesn’t necessarily top the first episode, it builds upon that death’s devastating repercussions and expands its character roster with one surprising face and one on the other side of Westeros.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

Experience Game of Thrones In IMAX With Exclusive Season 5 Trailer

Game of Thrones IMAXGame of Thrones has become quite the phenomenon after it starting airing on HBO, giving the A Song of Ice and Fire series of novels a competent and thoroughly entertaining adaptation most book series dream of, but I never imagined the show could reach such new and unprecedented heights: To build hype, despite not needing it for the upcoming 5th season, HBO has teamed with IMAX to premiere the season 5 trailer exclusively on their massive screens alongside remasters of the last two season 4 episodes. If you can make it to the opening night showing (Janurary 29th), the first 300 ticket holders will recieve some really unique (and very cool looking) posters, after which you only have a week to catch these screenings before they’re through.

Video Game Review: Telltale’s Game of Thrones, Ep. 1: “Iron from Ice”

Telltale's Game of Thrones

– Spoiler Review –

Telltale Games has proven with some of their most recent titles like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Tales from the Borderlands, that they can adapt material and keep true to its tone and world. The first episode of their Game of Thrones series, “Iron From Ice,” deftly assuages any fears they wouldn’t properly adapt the bloody world of Westeroes, setting itself up to be a worthy extension of the franchise. That all being said, since the game starts towards the end of the show’s third season, if you haven’t been watching the show or reading the books, it’ll be a little hard to understand everything that’s going on. And if you’re a spoiler-phobe, you best turn back now because this review (and the game) spoil quite a lot.

Telltale’s Game of Thrones Trailer, New Characters, Returning Cast Revealed

If reading all the books, watching the TV series, or diving into the online forums just hasn’t been enough Game of Thrones for you, then behold another way to engage with the fantasy series: Telltale Games’ Game of Thrones. And let’s face it, there’s never enough Game of Thrones for anyone, so I’m right there with you in eagerly anticipating this series. Telltale’s series will follow House Forrester from the ending of the 3rd season of the show and go right up till the start of the 5th and upcoming season. And much like an episode of the show or reading one of the books, you’ll play as 5(!) different characters over 6 episodes. The first episode, Iron From Ice, is ‘coming soon’ which could even mean next week for all we know, but in the mean time, here’s a look at the Forrester family tree that you’ll be coming in contact with throughout the season and the actors and actress reprising their roles from the show.

Story Fight Night: Game of Thrones VS A Song of Ice and Fire

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WH2ri8RhSnw&w595=&h=295]

At San Diego Comic-Con’s Game of Thrones panel, new cast members were announced for the upcoming 5th season and it’s all about the Benja…I mean Martells. Dorne will be featured heavily in the upcoming season, much like in the 4th book, and the repercussions from the death of a certain Prince really spices things up in the southern kingdom of Westeros. But out of the new cast, the most interesting part is the missing character: Arianne Martell. Factoring prominently into the 4th book’s Dorne focused chapters, does her lack of inclusion in the show hint to her not being important in the book’s end-game? George R.R. Martin answered the question when he made the simple point that “the show is the show and the books are the books.” I’m unsure if this has been addressed or mentioned already, but since it’s the first I’ve heard of it and differences between the show and TV series are of constant fascination to fans, I wanted to share my thoughts on just what Martin’s words mean going forward for both Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire.
