Journey to Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker Allegiance #2

– Spoiler Review –

With only four issues, Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s Allegiance wastes no time, ramping up the tension and action everywhere in its second issue. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Allegiance #2 (Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker)”

Canon Comic Review: Allegiance #1 (Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker)

Journey to Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker Allegiance #1

– Spoiler Review –

As December fast approaches, The Rise of Skywalker grows ever nearer, and to help build up the hype, Marvel starts their Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker content with Allegiance, a four part miniseries which drops throughout the month of October, written by Ethan Sacks, with art by Luke Ross. Allegiance #1 is a solid enough start, giving us little glimpses into the state of the galaxy, and the Resistance, after The Last Jedi, while setting up for the journeys ahead in the next few issues. Canon Comic Review: Doctor Aphra #37

Doctor Aphra #37

– Spoiler Review –

As always, I’m beyond ecstatic for a new Doctor Aphra issue, especially #37 as it’s the start of a new arc, “A Rogue’s End,” but this one comes with a sense of melancholy for me and many other Aphra fans, as it also happens to be the final arc of the series; at least it’s a solid, entertaining start with tons of promise! Canon Comic Miniseries Review: TIE Fighter

TIE Fighter Miniseries Review

Billed as a crossover event between Marvel and Del Rey’s Alphabet Squadron novel, Jody Houser’s TIE Fighter miniseries came with expectations it wasn’t designed to meet. Having had some time to think on the series, and rereading it all together, TIE Fighter’s character focus certainly engaged, but it was never enough for readers to neither connect to the characters nor distract from plots which ended before you even realized they started, but had it not been linked to the novel, maybe it would’ve had a better chance. You can always trust Halloween to be full of sweets, and Star Wars comics won’t be disappointing in October as we’re getting plenty of delectable sweets that way too. Check it out below! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics October 2019 Solicitations”

Canon Comic Miniseries Review: Age of Rebellion

Age of Rebellion Miniseries Review 2

Age of Rebellion is the middle “Age” of the Age of Star Wars maxiseries, but having to follow in the footsteps of Houser and team’s Republic seemed like a difficult job. Greg Pak, a few other writers, and the various artists along for the ride delved into the latest “Age” with aplomb, and while most of it was simply good, it’s highs were quite the zenith. Canon Comic Miniseries Review: Vader – Dark Visions

Vader Dark Visions Miniseries Review

Vader – Dark Visions technically should’ve never existed, because in a perfect world I would be writing about Shadow of Vader instead, but we live in an imperfect world. Despite that, I figured I’d give this replacement series a shot, as it was a different, varied, and lauded creative team stepping in, so what could go wrong with a similar concept? It became apparent far too early that everything could and Dark Visions was never able to step out from under Vader’s shadow, both literally and figuratively, leaving us with the most disappointing series from Marvel to date. In a perfect world, I probably wouldn’t have to write that statement. Continue reading “Canon Comic Miniseries Review: Vader – Dark Visions”

Canon Comic Review: Vader – Dark Visions #4

Vader Dark Visions #4

Vader – Dark Visions is back with issue #4 and after the abysmal issue #3, which I felt was a more damning moment to have this series cancelled than anything Chuck Wendig said to get fired/his series cancelled by cowardly Editor Mark Paniccia, this series can’t escape its own shadow, let alone the shadow of what brought it to life.
