In Star Wars Rebels S3’s latest, “Imperial Supercommandos” Sabine gets caught back up in Mandalorian affairs, a new member is added to the growing rogues gallery, and a surprising ally joins the Rebellion. While “Supercommandos” is the second Sabine-centric episode that doesn’t build her character but at least continues to reaffirm her characterization, it’s still her best episode of the season yet and has some of the most exciting action sequences of S3 to boot. Hera Syndulla comes face-to-face with Grand Admiral Thrawn after she takes on a personal mission to recover a family heirloom in Star Wars Rebels latest, “Hera’s Heroes.” While a fun and revealing episode in regards to Hera, especially what and who family really are to her, the chills come on strong when Thrawn makes his presence, albeit briefly, known. Star Wars Rebels‘ latest, “The Antilles Extraction,” finds Sabine undercover at an Imperial Academy, helping a familiar face (or two) defect from the Empire. Overall the episode was another solid one thanks to it keeping Sabine in the spotlight, introducing Wedge to the Rebellion, and Agent Kallus’ surprise. The return (again) of Darth Maul to Star Wars Rebels in “Holocrons of Fate” is merely a stepping stone for heady concepts about holocron mergers, warnings about the dangers of secrets once known, the healing of a friendship between Kanan and Ezra, and Maul and Ezra’s shocking discoveries that possibly give us a glimpse at this season’s (or the series’) endgame. Kanan. Ezra. Ahsoka Tano. Darth Vader. Darth Maul. 3 Inquisitors. Malachor. What could go wrong? As Star Wars Rebels‘ season two finale, “Twilight of the Apprentice,” showed, everything, but not in a way many could’ve easily predicted. The episode left myself (and many others) with utter shock, tears, confusion, and a small hint of happiness, while finding surprising answers and opening up even more surprising questions in what was not only the series’ best, but some of the top Star Wars material ever produced. It’s a grand statement to make and my review will do its best to prove it, all the while diving into some of the big cliffhangers facing the characters while we wait (rather impatiently now) for season 3.
