– Spoiler Review –

The Rise of Kylo Ren charts the events of Ben Solo’s fall after the fateful late night visit from his uncle, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, revealing how Ben goes to Ren in 4 packed, heady, and intriguing issues. Star Wars Comics June 2020 Solicitations (UPDATED)

Star Wars Comics June 2020 Solicitations

These are uncertain and often frightening times and I want to take a moment before we hop into the future of June’s Star Wars comics to wish everyone well and hope everyone is taking the necessary precautions to stay safe. One of the few certainties left are the release of both the solicitations for upcoming comics and the continued release of comics as well, and today we have a look at June’s coming stories, as Doctor Aphra fights for her life against an ancient curse (so a normal Wednesday), Vader’s efforts to uncover who hid Padmé from him takes him to unexpected places, Boba Fett and Valance do battle, and more!

UPDATE 5/2/20: Diamond comics stopped shipping product in April, but it will resume shipping in late May, with a far reduced schedule for all comics, including Star Wars comics. The only new issue out in June will be Bounty Hunters #3, originally scheduled for April. You can still look at would’ve been below, but we’ll have any and all new solicitations on the Manor once they’re released! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics June 2020 Solicitations (UPDATED)”

Comic Adaptation of The Rise of Skywalker Hitting Shelves in June

The Rise of Skywalker Adaptation Reveal

FINAL UPDATE: This was banished to the netherworld of the Force, never to return….maybe. At this point, I highly out doubt it. ORIGINAL STORY: Comic adaptations have always been a bit hit or miss for me, so of course I’m a little wary of The Rise of Skywalker’s upcoming adaptation no matter how much I enjoyed the film because it’s definitely a bit of a mess. And the fact the adaptation will only be 5 issues, a glaringly small amount considering Solo: A Star Wars Story got 7 whole issues, and it includes new content not in the film which adds a whole other layer of concern when jamming all that story into a scant number of issues. There’s an excellent creative team at the helm though, with Jody Houser writing and Will Sliney on art (The Rise of Kylo Ren). The Rise of Skywalker #1 hits shelves in June, three months after the novelization (which itself will add deleted scenes, as already seen in its first excerpt) and the film’s home/digital release. See the full Phil Noto cover below the cut! UPDATE 1: With the current state of comics, including a far reduced schedule as comics begin shipping in late May again, I wouldn’t expect to see this in June but we’ll update once we know more! Canon Comic Retrospective: Doctor Aphra Series {Issues 1-40} (Volume 1)

Doctor Aphra Volume 1 Retrospective

– Full Spoiler Review –

I’ll never forget watching Doctor Aphra stuffed in an airlock, me chanting alongside her, “Please, not like this!” as Darth Vader promptly jettisons her out into space, her body floating into the cold depths of space. I was shocked, frustrated, and sad, barely able to finish the next few pages of Darth Vader #25 (Vol. 1), flipping past the credits in annoyance, only to see she somehow finagled together a plan to survive. Shortly after, her on-going comic series was announced, the first comic created character to lead her own series (among many other firsts), and my relief and excitement almost had me bursting out into happy tears compared to my sad tears moments before. 40 issues, and 3 Annuals later, Aphra continuously finagled a new way to survive out of the most unlikeliest of scenarios, hopping from one get rich quick scheme to another, but now her adventures (at least in Volume 1) have come to an end. Continue on to read Chris and mine’s review of the entire Doctor Aphra (Vol. 1) series! Continue reading “Canon Comic Retrospective: Doctor Aphra Series {Issues 1-40} (Volume 1)”

Star Wars Comics March 2020 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics March 2020 Solicitations

I’m posting these March 2020 Star Wars comics solicitations a few days late because these kind of snuck up on me, though I’m not quite sure how, between a couple comic issues, a new The Mandalorian, and some little film called The Rise of Skywalker all coming out really, really close to one another; I won’t let it happen again, though (until maybe 2022 when the next film comes out). March will see the release of TROS‘ novelization and the end of the already epic The Rise of Kylo Ren mini, fitting if you’ve seen the film, while we’re set to be introduced to a new series called Bounty Hunters, while the third volume of Darth Vader might find him running into a surviving handmaiden of a certain important woman from his past. Read on to find out what’s all ahead! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics March 2020 Solicitations”
