Canon Novel Review: The High Republic – Escape From Valo

– Minor Spoiler Review –

Combining the strengths of both Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong into one novel is almost too much to handle in the best way possible, so it means The High Republic: Escape from Valo, the era’s latest Phase III novel entry, is brimming with complex and engaging characters (new and old), a whip-smart pace, meaningful representation, and a great mixture of hope and darkness. So, You’re Looking to Get Advanced Reader Copies…

Fans always have a pretty good idea of what to expect from an upcoming Star Wars book or comic release thanks to fansites posting reviews on or before release dates, which is only possible when publishers send ARCs, aka Advanced Reader Copies, for these early reviews. Receiving ARCs is a privilege and something not to be taken lightly, as it requires trust from the publisher, and I’ve been lucky to have access for the Manor but never expect it. But how does one get on the list or start receiving ARCs? Recent excitement around seeing fellow fans with the books early (before even the authors!) has brought up this question, so I’ve put together a little article diving into how I got started here in the US and how you can as well! Canon Comic Review: Doctor Aphra #40 (Vol. 2)

– Spoiler Review –

After nearly four years and 40 issues, plus lots of laughter, tears, and joyous chaos along the way, Doctor Aphra‘s (Vol. 2) finale has arrived. We’ve been here before, but not at this caliber and strength of character building, so the tears come swift and often in one of the best finales for Star Wars comics in general, let alone for the character. I’m going to do my best not to cry again too much typing out this review, but hey, if I do, you won’t have to see it. Let’s begin! Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Doctor Aphra #40 (Vol. 2)”

Comic News: Darth Maul Stars in Latest Black, White & Red Miniseries, Out April 2024

Darth Vader certainly brought the chills in his, and Star Wars’ first, Black, White & Red miniseries, though considering how much Vader content we’ve had, it didn’t quite hit as hard. Now Darth Maul enters the ring for his own Black, White & Red miniseries and, given his spooky and bloody publishing history plus his iconic, devilish look, I do believe he’ll make even more of a splash in this format. Out April 25, 2024, the four-issue series will have a different creative team for each entry, with first featuring Benjamin Percy and Stefano Raffaele. Check out a few more details, as well as some wicked cool covers, for the first issue below, otherwise visit the Manor for our reviews starting April!
