Canon Short Story Review: Star Wars: Tales from a Galaxy Far, Far Away: Aliens (Volume 1)

Tales from a Galaxy Far, Far Away - Aliens

Spoiler Reviews –

UPDATED: The “Tales from/of” series has long been a stalwart of the literature arm of the Star Wars franchise, giving life to the background characters seen throughout the films. The tradition continues into the new canon with the newest iteration of the idea, written by Landry Q. Walker: Star Wars: Tales from a Galaxy Far, Far Away: Aliens (Volume 1), which is part of the “Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” line. Volume 1 originally released 4 stories as ebooks prior to the TFA‘s release, but they have since been collected, with two new stories, in a hardcover edition that released April 5. Below are reviews for all six Tales stories: 1) “All Creatures Great and Small”; 2) “The Face of Evil”; 3) “The Crimson Corsair and the Lost Treasure of Count Dooku”; 4) “High Noon on Jakku.”; 5) “A Recipe for Death”*; 6) “True Love”* Continue reading “Canon Short Story Review: Star Wars: Tales from a Galaxy Far, Far Away: Aliens (Volume 1)”

Canon Short Story Review: Star Wars: The Perfect Weapon

The Perfect Weapon

Spoiler Review –

Star Wars: The Perfect Weapon is a short story that is part of the “Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” written by Delilah S. Dawson, and centers on spy-for-hire Bazine Netal and her latest mission. Overall, The Perfect Weapon is an enjoyable spy-fi romp in the Star Wars universe, with a strong central character in Bazine, but it tends to be predictable thanks to its over-reliance on spy genre tropes (though that same reliance is what makes it enjoyable in the first place). The Force Awaken’s “(Just) Let It In,” – A Parody of Frozen’s “Let It Go”

Let It In vs Let It GoEver since I heard Maz Kanata’s line at the end of the new The Force Awakens trailer, I couldn’t get it out of my head: “Just let it in.” Part of it stuck with me because it promised hope for whomever the character was talking to (likely Rey), while the other because it sounded so suspiciously close to “Let it Go,” the hit song from Disney’s Frozen. Once I made the subconscious connection between the two, I was unable to shake the thought of “Let it In” and “Let It Go” being so similar. It got to the point where I was hearing “Let It In” replacing the words “Let It Go” in Idina Menzel’s song and that’s when it hit me: the only way to get the two unconnected in my head was to go all out and completely redo Elsa’s showstopping number “Let It Go” to become Rey’s breakout hit, “Let It In.” Maybe not the best idea, but below are the results. The Force Awakens Theatrical Trailer, Poster Revealed, Tickets now Live! (UPDATED)

Above, witness the glory that is the theatrical (and likely last) trailer for The Force Awakens. If you were too busy watching that, you probably didn’t score your tickets, which went live earlier than promised and starting selling out like Death Star parts at the junk shop. My stunned thoughts on the trailer (and the theatrical poster that was revealed Sunday) below. And now after a day to soak it all in, I’ve included some of my extended thoughts, news about TFA breaking tickets records, and other reactions from around the web! Brief New The Force Awakens Footage Shown

Finn v Kylo

Why Kylo Ren is igniting his lightsaber, shown during the first teaser, in a snowy, wooded area gets answered in brand-new footage from The Force Awakens released on Star Wars’ official Instagram account. It seems Finn, first teased to be holding a lightsaber in D23’s exclusive poster, is there to face the masked menace. The look on Finn’s face, determination and some slight fear is a pretty chilling and thrilling image. There’s also a new shot of Rey and BB-8 looking up in awe at…something. The teaser is below: Continue reading “Brief New The Force Awakens Footage Shown”

Global The Force Awakens Toy Unboxing Live on YouTube Next Week

Well this is certainly an interesting idea: around the globe in different countries and their various cities, the upcoming The Force Awakens toy line to be released on Force Friday will be unboxed live on YouTube (using Disney’s recent acquisition of Maker Studios to their advantage), hosted by various YouTube personalities. It all culminates in the midnight merchandising bonanza that will be Force Friday. So far there’s been no official reveal of what you’ll be emptying your wallets for (and more importantly how much) in the wee hours of the morning next week Friday, nor no official reveal of what stores will be doing for the promotion, but with this announcement going live it’s not hard to imagine we’ll know something officially soon.
