Comic News: Ezra Flees Thrawn in Comic Miniseries Tie-in to Ahsoka

Look, I’m not saying Lucasfilm purposefully announced a new comic miniseries tying into the Ahsoka show right after we published a guest post about the state of tie-in media, but the timing is very ironic! Revealed ahead of NYCC, which has a Lucasfilm Publishing panel {Oct. 9 at 10am CST} and a Mad Cave Studios comic panel {Oct. 10 at 12:45pm CST}, Marvel’s latest comic miniseries is an original story, not an adaptation, filling in a vital part of the Ahsoka show, written by Rodney Barnes with art by Andrea Di Vito. Based on an idea from Dave Filoni himself, the biggest hat man at Lucasfilm now, Ahsoka: Escape from Thrawn will be a 5-issue miniseries revealing just how exactly Ezra Bridger, a stowaway aboard Grand Admiral Thrawn’s Chimaera Star Destroyer on the trip from Peridea to the main Star Wars galaxy, managed to evade the forces allied against him and return home, finally. Hopefully the comic ends with Hera and Ezra hugging this time! It kicks off January 2027 and will wrap up in time for the second season of the show. Movie News: Jon Watts Directing Episode X, Maybe

I’m old enough (but really not that old) to remember the 2020 Disney Investor’s Day announcement palooza of upcoming films and TV shows for Star Wars that largely never materialized. I’m also old enough to recall the Celebration Europe 2023 film trifecta reveal that’s essentially fizzled out as well. And while I’m today years old hearing the rumors from some trusted fansites/individuals and eventually the trades confirming Jon Watts directing a Simon Kinberg written Episode X, the start of the next Skywalker Saga trilogy, I still remember those other announcements. So, at this moment, the news is both exciting but well-tread ground. Until there’s a trailer (convention exclusive or not), it doesn’t quite feel real. But what does feel real is the disappointment Lucasfilm chose another white dude to direct, so Ep. X unfortunately feels more likely to happen since since they did. And it also feels real since Kathleen Kennedy felt rather sure of such a film coming to fruition in her exit interview, so the increased certainty is really the only reason I’m covering this news despite the official Star Wars blog or Lucasfilm staying mum.

Between the first three Tom Holland Spider-Man films and his creation and involvement with Skeleton Crew, an enjoyable little series I intend on rewatching soon, Jon Watts is a solid and safe choice. And rumors we’ll have Jedi Master Rey Skywalker in the film to some degree (I’m still hoping for a cameo in Starfighter) brightens my mood, though I just wish we were still getting her New Jedi Order movie as well (or instead, I’m not picky). But what does a new Skywalker Saga film look like? What does that even mean when it’s now more a title, a lineage of heroes carrying the light? And how far after Ep. IX will it take place? And what will ail the galaxy to have heroes rise to help it once again? Mayhaps we’ll learn more at Celebration Los Angeles 2027. Mayhaps this film will never happen. But one thing is for sure, you can always come back to the Manor to find out as we learn more.

Star Wars Comics December 2026 Solicitations

And the year 2026 ends with what appears to be a whimper when it comes to Star Wars comics, as there are only TWO issues out. One is the adaptation of the finale of The Book of Boba Fett, while the other is the big finale to Charles Soule’s current Kylo Ren trilogy in The Fall of Kylo Ren. So Star Wars comics could potentially go out on bang in 2026 depending on how that issue is, but it’s hard not to look at the state of things and not feel like a whimper overall. 2027 should hopefully be a change of pace in publishing, getting into the 50 Anniversary celebrations and pushing towards the future of the franchise, while I’ll be discussing 2026 as whole more in my annual year-in-review series, so for now, take one last look at what the year has to offer in the December 2026 Star Wars comics solicitations!

Star Wars Comics November 2026 Solicitations

Look, it’s not my birthday month anymore, so…honestly, ouch, that makes it harder to swallow only THREE comics in November and only ONE of them being a new story, not an adaptation. Hence my problem with upcoming Marvel/Star Wars crossover is more about it happening now, after we have depressingly small and limited months of comic releases. At least I’ll get to visit Galaxy’s Edge in November, which should help ease the pain. Might have to get something at Dok Ondar’s to help. Or just a few extra drinks at Oga’s Cantina. {Updated} D23 2026: Ahsoka Trailer Goes Big for January 20 Premiere, Starfighter Trailer Leaks, Ben Solo Movie Hint?

With 2027 barreling towards us whether we like it or not, it was time for Lucasfilm to peel back some glimpses of what fans can expect on the big and little screens. At the D23 convention, they did just that, showcasing what appears to be a much bigger season for Ahsoka, which launches on January 20, 2027, with massive battles and a much better sense of scale than season one, judging by the trailer alone. Starfighter had its moment too, officially revealing a new poster with a new logo, but the leaked trailer is out there (which I break down below) if you look hard enough, also teasing a small focus with big potential. Comic News: Marvel x Star Wars Crossover Comeths For Us All in 2027

With Star Wars: A New Hope‘s big 50th Anniversary in 2027, it’s inevitable we’ll be swamped with nostalgic content for the original, even as new stories are released, like Starfighter and Ahsoka season two. We already know about A New Hope returning to cinemas in its ‘original‘ form in February 2027 and we just learned about Mad Cave Comics and their upcoming A New Hope – Triple Take comic which retells the story, also scheduled for Feb 2027. But what no one had on their bingo cards was a comic event unlike any other (for Star Wars at least) before it: Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, a crossover between the Star Wars universe and Marvel comics, written by Kevin Smith with art by David Marquez, launching in January 2027. I see the potential, but considering the throes of comic woes of late, this announcement isn’t drumming up the excitement it could’ve. Head below for the details, the covers, and my consternations. Star Wars Comics October 2026 Solicitations

You know what’s spooky….all the tie-ins and adaptations clogging up the comics in October! Marvel does finally unload the final two issues of their Rogue One tie-ins that ends with Vader doing frightening Vader things, plus they’re offering new and scary threats for Kylo Ren to face, while Dark Horse has a unsettling sounding finale to its The High Republic Adventures – Pathfinders miniseries, so even the content inside the comics has some festive fall frights to enjoy. SDCC ’26 Publishing Panels Roundup: Luke & Leia Jedi Training Novel, Mad Cave’s X-Wing Academy, and More!

The Publishing arm of the Star Wars franchise had three panels on Friday at SDCC 2026, so we gathered all the news and details into one place! The biggest announcement was Beth Revis’ April 2027 novel, Star Wars: Twin Crossroads, which will cover Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa training together as Jedi, while new entrant in the all-ages section of comics Mad Cave Studios and their Papercutz imprint offered up X-Wing Academy, which takes place in the New Republic era! Exhilarating Trailer for Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi, Releases August 5

In the 5 years since the original “The Ninth Jedi” short, leaving us wanting more but assuming nothing like it could happen, we’ve had the announcement of a full series and a second short, “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope“. And now we have our first full trailer for Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi and the revelation of a very soon release date, just over one month, with all episodes dropping on August 5! It’s an exhilarating trailer, blowing up the world of the short in ways fans could barely have dreamt.
