SDCC ’26 Publishing Panels Roundup: Luke & Leia Jedi Training Novel, Mad Cave’s X-Wing Academy, and More!

The Publishing arm of the Star Wars franchise had three panels on Friday at SDCC 2026, so we gathered all the news and details into one place! The biggest announcement was Beth Revis’ April 2027 novel, Star Wars: Twin Crossroads, which will cover Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa training together as Jedi, while new entrant in the all-ages section of comics Mad Cave Studios and their Papercutz imprint offered up X-Wing Academy, which takes place in the New Republic era! Novel News: Star Pilots Announced, Second Reign of the Empire Novel Gets Cover, Synopsis, Release Date Revealed

At SDCC ’25, we learned the remaining titles and a slight delay in releases for the remaining Reign of the Empire Trilogy novels, and now we get our first glimpse at details surrounding the second entry, Edge of the Abyss, by Rebecca Roanhorse. io9 had the exclusive cover and blurb reveal, which isn’t shy about highlighting it will be set only a year prior to the start of Andor, while we get plenty of familiar faces on the cover and names in the blurb, like a meet-up fans have been curious to see happen and the good news myself and many others won’t be shutting up about having more of Kleya Marki, among others! Also, historian and author Chris Kempshall announced his return for more in-universe historical fiction on his big appearance with Star Wars Explained, revealing October’s Star Wars: Star Pilots, which will put Wedge Antilles in the cockpit for tales from the Galactic Civil War aka the Original Trilogy! Publishing News: Tales from the Nightlands Comic, Finn & Jannah Novel The Last Order Announced! (UPDATED)

The next entry in the (nearly) annual comic fright fest from Cavan Scott and an all-star cast of creatives was announced for 2025: Tales from the Nightlands, a three-issue series covering three different eras dealing with Ryloth’s boogeyman, the Nightlander! And while it’s yet to get an official reveal, we’ll update this once it does as we’ll likely finally get a cover, October 2025 will feature the release of a new young adult novel, set after The Rise of Skywalker (!) starring Finn and Jannah (!!): The Last Order by Kwame Mbalia (UPDATE Cover and new notes from Mbalia added!). Publishing News: Master of Evil Vader Novel Announced, New Reference Books, and More!

Once listings revealed there was an upcoming Star Wars novel titled Master of Evil, fans had been wondering whether its title was an obvious hint of its subject matter or not, with expectations set on a reveal at Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025’s publishing panel. While there will be a deeper dive into what it’s all about, the mask was partially removed early for Master of Evil, a Darth Vader-centric novel by Adam Christopher out November 11, as well as a bevy of other reference book titles and updates via the official site. High Republic News: Trials of the Jedi Cover Revealed!

While there are much bigger worries in the world, I still found myself a little anxious over the coming cover reveal from Charles Soule’s High Republic grand finale novel, Trials of the Jedi. Not concerning its content, but rather the bittersweet fact it’s the last (as we know, for now…) novel cover reveal for the era. It’s been an incredible journey these four years and seeing this cover, well…it’s really settling in the end isn’t just near, it’s practically here. January 29 has a big High Republic comic release, with endings to a few miniseries, the first Annual issue in a while, and the beginning of the big Battle of Eriadu storyline, so the ending has never felt more unavoidable until now, something I’m not sure how to process just yet.
