The High Republic Launch Moved to January 2021

In an unfortunate but completely understandable move, considering the unprecedented situation facing the world, the launch of The High Republic publishing initiative has been delayed until January 2021. This news seemed inevitable after last week’s updated Star Wars comic solicitations for August did not include a single issue of The High Republic’s comic series, and delaying the whole initiative since the comics couldn’t come out in time shows how important every medium is in telling this new and exciting story. As sad as this development might be, a note included with the official site’s blog post about the delay, written by creative director of Lucasfilm Publishing Michael Siglain, offered some tantalizing teases of what’s to come. We dive into those teases below! (Update: THR has begun and our reviews are rolling in!) Continue reading “The High Republic Launch Moved to January 2021”

Alphabet Squadron: Shadow Fall Cover, First Excerpt Revealed

Alphabet Squadron Shadow Fall Announcement

If you were wondering how they could outdo the bright and striking cover for the first entry in the Alphabet Squadron Trilogy by Alexander Freed, then look no further than the cover for the second entry, Shadow Fall! Chass na Chadic, the B-wing pilot with great piloting skills but even better skills at picking a sick playlist, graces the blue/purple-hued amazing cover, so here’s hoping her, and her past with a certain Partisan group, gets a little more focus in the the second chapter. The excerpt, via io9, offers a glimpse at how the 204th Shadow Wing finds a reason to enter the fray with Hera Syndulla’s New Republic forces again, already alleviating some of my concern of them being a trilogy-worthy enemy, the only real downside to the excellent first book. Freed’s Alphabet Squadron: Shadow Fall, arrives June 23, 2020. Check out the full cover below! UPDATE: My review is in! YA Novel Poe Dameron: Free Fall Explores Character’s Smuggling Past in August

Poe Dameron Free Fall Announcement

For a character who was originally supposed to die in the opening minutes of The Force Awakens, Poe Dameron has had quite the extended life. Beyond the sequel trilogy, he’s had an excellent on-going comic, starred in an adult novel, and already gotten a little back story in novels/comics before. After his surprise additional backstory introduced in The Rise of Skywalker, we’re getting a YA novel by writer Alex Segura that’ll dive into Poe’s time as a spice smuggler this August, titled Poe Dameron: Free Fall (via Polygon). It’s surprising characters with less backstory and content weren’t chosen for a novel, but here we are. Check out the blurb and some of my thoughts below. Project Luminous Reveal Coming February 24

Luminous, the mysterious upcoming publishing project, has been teased by Lucasfilm since Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019 in April, with nary a detail since. We were originally promised it would be revealed in January 2020, but several reporters and journalists have been invited to a reveal event for Project Luminous on February 24, 2020. The vague “January” promise always felt like it wouldn’t happen, so it’s no surprise it would happen another month, and regardless it’s really nice to have a set and solid date. Head below the cut for what little details we received so far, and what some of the rumors point towards. Continue reading “Project Luminous Reveal Coming February 24”
