The above video teases the return of (a possibly Darth) Revan, a part of the much beloved character we haven’t seen in Legends canon since flashbacks in the original Knights of the Old Republic game. While maybe this fits better with some of your multiple playthroughs of the game, his story has come a long, long way since then. Below contains heavy spoilers for The Old Republic MMO, Revan the novel, and the KotOR series, as I look at how Revan’s story has evolved and similarly become constrained over the decade since his first appearance. VR Demo Lets You Train Like Luke Skywalker
(UPDATE: 11/17/2015 It appears the video is private now and I can’t find a new one…sorry!)
It’s about time someone made sure we could all experience the early trials of Luke Skywalker’s training, namely his battle against the great combat remote aboard the Millennium Falcon. Combing the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality headset, a Stem Pack for head tracking, and Razer Hydra motion controllers for hand tracking, you can do your best to predict the stinging remote’s shots with up to two lightsabers, which seems a little like cheating at this point. It looks like all this demo is missing right now is a blast-shield option, encouraging words from Obi-Wan, and chiding remarks from Han Solo. Hopefully, as VR works it’s way into consumers homes over the next year or so, we’ll get to have more experiences like this.

E3 2014: Stand Out Moments
Each year, from the big wigs of companies and developers, to the indies, press, and the fans, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is meant to show everyone what the video game industry is up to these days. While there are discussions about its overall relevance to the industry, as some of the biggest reveals tend to happen at other conventions or just whenever people please, it still draws out the 10 year old in me (and I know it does for others too). While this year’s E3 wasn’t as thrilling as some of the ones in the past, I’d like to share a few things that still caught my attention and maybe you should check out as well. Lead Uncharted Writer Joins Visceral Games Star Wars Project
I originally posted this on Knights’ Archive, early April 2014.
I almost had a heart attack, jumped around for joy, and yelled, “Wizard!” and actually meant it, when I first heard this next bit of news. And while you might not have the same reaction when you heard it, I’m going to do my best to make sure you realize why I did. Amy Hennig, known most recently and awarded a lot for the Uncharted series of video games on the Playstation 3, has joined Visceral Games as Creative Director for their upcoming Star Wars project.

Execution vs Ideas: Another Cancelled LucasArts Game Surfaces
There seems to have been a lot of discarded skeletons in LucasArts’ cancelled game closet and recent news marks a Darth Maul-centric one as another casualty.

New Star Wars: Battlefront Trailer Shown at E3
Shortly after EA got the Star Wars license, we were treated to an extremely brief CG trailer teaser of Star Wars: Battlefront at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2013. Since then, the developers at DICE have been eerily silent about the game but it was a guarantee we’d be seeing something this year. Today, at the EA presser, the above video was unveiled containing in-engine footage from the upcoming Battlefront entry. In it, we at least know why DICE was quiet: they were busy checking out the hallowed Lucasfilm Archives and freezing their rear ends on Hoth so much they couldn’t bring themselves to talk. But other than that, we still don’t know much regarding the actual game. Continue reading “New Star Wars: Battlefront Trailer Shown at E3”
