Comic News: Boba Fett Gets the Black, White & Red Treatment this September

Marvel’s back at it again with the Black, White & Red anthology series, and while I was hoping for Kylo Ren, they went for a change of pace I can get behind, as September 17 will see the release of Boba Fett: Black, White & Red! It follows more in the Darth Maul version’s footsteps, with each of its four issues from different creative teams, but I appreciate how we’re leaving the lightsaber wielding baddies behind for bounty hunters, as it seems like a trickier proposition for the various art teams to fit within the series’ conventions. Check out the solicitation for issue #1 and its cover below!

Boba Fett: Black, White & Red #1 comes from writer Benjamin Percy, who brought fans a really creepy story in Darth Maul: Black, White & Red #1, while the artist is Chris Allen, who is new to the series and Star Wars as a whole. And it sounds like Percy gave Allen quite the issue to work on, per the article about its release:

“I set [Boba Fett] up with a merc mission that goes wrong in a hundred different ways — as he’s caught between the demands of the Empire and a rogue faction of the Rebellion. We’re setting a major sequence in a lava system that Fett has to navigate to hunt down the best thief in the galaxy. I’m so lucky to join forces with artist Chris Allen, who brings his eye for dynamic action, wild layouts, and granular detail to this twisty, turny story that will keep you guessing until the end.”

Here’s the solicitation, which the rest of September’s will hit later this week:

“THE IMPOSSIBLE JOB”

  • BOBA FETT finds himself trapped in a situation he seemingly can’t get out of!
  • The EMPIRE and an extreme REBEL faction are after the same bounty!
  • Fett needs to track down a deadly individual who has played both sides, and — to make things even more impossible — his target is hiding out in a volatile volcanic system!

Much like I’ve been doing with other miniseries, and will with the other recently announced Han Solo miniseries, I won’t be reviewing Boba Fett: Black, White & Red issue by issue. I might post one here for issue #1 though for sure will post thoughts on Bluesky for each issue, but otherwise my full miniseries review won’t come until the fourth and final issue is out, which would be in December if there are no delays and this stays monthly.

As always, if you’re interested in covering these type of things and/or have various opinion pieces in mind, we’re always open for submissions here at the Manor!

Either way, check for Boba Fett: Black, White & Red at your local comic shop on September 17!
