First there was the Rise, next the Legacy, and now…the Fall! It feels pretty appropriate, and not just due to the way Legacy of Vader ended, writer Charles Soule’s next entry in Kylo Ren’s journey would be titled The Fall of Kylo Ren (love the video graphic). The new 5-issue miniseries, which is probably going to be more the norm from Marvel these days, kicks off in August and will pick up where Legacy left off and take us right into The Rise of Skywalker! A look at the first covers, additional details, and some thoughts below the cut, but know we’ll be sat and reading!
Some lovely covers by Phil Noto and Luke Ross, wouldn’t you say?!
Kylo Ren aka Ben Solo has been in the hearts and minds of fans since his first appearance and the whole recently surprising debacle about The Hunt for Ben Solo crashing at the finish line (but maybe we dodged a bullet given the director is an AI fan) has left a void. Charles Soule’s Legacy of Vader, packed with some incredible displays of the Force and a puzzling yet intriguing ending you have to read to believe, was a great balm on the recent wound. While he teased there would be more to follow Legacy, how, where, and when were left painfully unknown…until now. Starting in August, The Fall of Kylo Ren will let Soule chart the final (for now…) path of his loose ‘trilogy’ about the character’s intriguing story that fans have had wanted told for some time. Here’s some details from the press release:
THE LEGACY OF VADER CREATES A NEW EMPIRE OF FEAR!
Kylo Ren returns from devastation, wielding total fury! As Generals Hux and Pryde tear the First Order apart with treacherous ambition, Kylo cuts through their schemes with merciless clarity. His wrath forges unity through fear and unleashes a Supreme Leader neither general can escape…nor survive disappointing. A pivotal turning point for Kylo, Hux, and Pryde and essential reading for every Star Wars fan.
While Legacy was much more internal and ethereal as Kylo investigated his grandfather’s past and went on some mesmerizing journeys into the netherworlds of the Force, The Fall of Kylo Ren sounds more present, as he has to reign in the squabbling generals, all while forging forward on his own destiny. I’ll be interested as hell to see what Soule does with these 5 issues, like how much general bickering he gets to show off while still focusing on Kylo’s internal journey to TRoS. He teased in his latest newsletter, “REIGN {Legacy‘s subtitle} gave him clarity, even a sort of happiness. FALL is the final piece of the puzzle. I hope those of you following this story will enjoy.” Oh, and he revealed Tava Ren returns, which will help clear up that lingering question of how he takes over the Knights of Ren given she’s still the current leader at this point in the timeline. Oh, and while this is the end of his Kylo ‘trilogy’, he also suggests never say never. Hopefully that comes to pass!!
If you’re wondering why this is only 5 issues, Marvel’s likely leaning that way given all sorts of factors, something I went over in my 2025 Star Wars Comics Year-in-Review, but in short: money.
