Lucasfilm’s Publishing Panel at SDCC 2025 contained plenty of previews of upcoming releases and a few announcements, while they focused a good portion on looking back on The High Republic. Head below to see looks at The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic: Volume II, Tales from the Nightlands, and announcements like another Bad Batch comic, The Mandalorian Visual Guide, and more!
Big thanks to Jason on Bluesky for live-posting from the panels!
The High Republic
Without The High Republic Show anymore, this SDCC panel was a good way to let a few of the creatives involved with the publishing initiative a chance tell fans in attendance what the series meant to them, from The High Republic Adventures artist Harvey Tolibao revealing it helped him through tough times to Tessa Gratton expressing the rarity of how embraced her decisions were to create characters of all different walks of life and spectrums. We’re going to miss them and this story, too! Outside of those discussions, we got our first look inside The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic: Volume II, with images depicting different ideas for the Nameless, the armor the Luminous Jedi use when visiting Planet X in Trials of the Jedi, and even the creepy takes on Azlin Rell’s return. It looks like the gloves are off and we should be getting all the good images, spoilers everywhere, so might be best to be all read up before picking up a copy when it releases August 19!
The upcoming The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte also got a preview, showing off Vernestra Rwoh artwork and her lightsaber whip!! That’s not out until January 13, 2026, but both are by Kristin Baver!
And there’s fun for the younglings and young adults on the way as well. It starts with Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures – The Training Sessions, which collects the YJA Free Comic Book Day stories and a new original story in a hardcover collection out in December. Also, Tessa Gratton was on hand to hype up July 29’s The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown, which you can read the first few chapters of thanks to a preview by Kobo, but she’s promising not to put Jeckie and Yorde through too much pain considering what happens to them in the show! We’ll be picking this up next week and have a review probably sometime in August.
And Cavan Scott was there to reveal something we’ve all expected and known at this point, but there’s no doubt now: next week’s The High Republic: The Finale – The Beacon will reveal why Jedi Master Keeve Trennis leaves the Jedi Order! Despite knowing about it…STILL NOT READY FOR IT. But also excited for it.
Comics
I’m always eager for more all-ages horror fun from Count Cavan Scott himself and Tales from the Nightlands looks like a great new addition to his series! Soo Lee, who will draw issue #1, was at the panel and we got some previews of her spooky work, so I’m ready for this to give me chills when it starts in September! They also revealed the creepy cover for the third and final issue, which stars Rey and Finn. After the panel, The SWU on Bluesky found Dark Horse’s release of previews for issues #2 and #3, so check all those out above!
Dark Horse’s next original graphic novel will be about General Grievous, written by Michael Moreci, with art by Caìo Filipe, which we also got our first look at as well! Out January 13, 2026, here’s the blurb:
Count Dooku has sent General Grievous to conquer the jungle planet of Katou. It’s an opportunity to prove Grievous’ worth to his Sith masters. The herders of Katou are no match for the mechanized monster. Still, when Jedi Knight Cardiff Baye and his clone troopers arrive, Grievous takes to the forest for a stealthier approach.
Can the general’s brute strength defeat the heroes of the Republic, or will his beastly nature be his downfall?
Also from Dark Horse, they announced Hyperspace Stories: The Bad Batch – Rogue Agents, a sequel to the recently finished Hyperspace Stories: The Bad Batch – Ghost Agents, with the same creative team of Michael Moreci writing, Reese Hannigan on pencils, Elisabetta D’Amico on inks, Michael Atiyeh on colors, and the Comicraft team lettering! Between these two comics and the upcoming Sanctuary: A Bad Batch Novel we have an early review for, the show might be over, but the Batch must go on! Starting December 17, here’s the blurb, care of StarWarsNewsNet:
When a Separatist scientist and his dangerous invention go missing during the Clone Wars, Clone Force 99 is sent to track him down and prevent the device from falling into the wrong hands. But when Hunter, Wrecker, Crosshair, and Tech arrive at the scientist’s abandoned laboratory, they quickly realize that they aren’t the only ones on his trail, and that this mission will be different than any they’ve faced before!
It was a little quieter on the Marvel front, showing off some covers for upcoming issues, of which I really like The Empire Strikes Back Darth Vader look Kylo Ren’s going for in Legacy of Vader #10’s cover, while Jedi Knights #9’s looks to promise revelations about the assassin out for Qui-Gon Jinn’s blood, and Doctor Aphra: Chaos Agent #5 I went into deep theory mode in October’s solicitations, which just hit the day before the panel so head over to our coverage of those for a glimpse ahead!
Other Publishing:
The next character to get a Star Wars Icons release is of course Darth Vader, which I’m surprised took this long! It’s out October 21 from Insight Editions, written by Anthony Breznican. The cover’s pretty nifty. They also showed off some previews from the ILM 50th Anniversary release too, which will cover all sorts of movies from the group’s storied career.
And lastly, The Mandalorian Visual Guide from DK Books is alive again, still written by Pablo Hidalgo of course, and will cover the first three season of the show. It’s out May 2026, in time for The Mandalorian and Grogu film.
That’s a wrap for Lucasfilm’s Publishing Panel, check our coverage of Random House World’s panel here!
