The Publishing arm of the Star Wars franchise had three panels on Friday at SDCC 2026, so we gathered all the news and details into one place! The biggest announcement was Beth Revis’ April 2027 novel, Star Wars: Twin Crossroads, which will cover Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa training together as Jedi, while new entrant in the all-ages section of comics Mad Cave Studios and their Papercutz imprint offered up X-Wing Academy, which takes place in the New Republic era! There’s several other announcements and additional details on these new releases below!

Novels:
Nothing like a new Star Wars novel announcement! Especially when it’s about something fans have been clamoring for! Beth Revis is BACK and with quite the book too, but I’d trust her with this story, no problem. Twin Crossroads, out April 2027, is all about Luke and Leia’s time training to be Jedi, teased ever so briefly in The Rise of Skywalker (which somehow has yet to receive ANY HASBRO FIGURES…what are they doing over there?!), and, without giving too much away, something we got our first bigger glimpse of in Madeleine Roux’s Legacy, out July 28, (which Revis even mentions in her interview). Twin Crossroads will take place right after Revis’ The Princess and the Scoundrel, itself prior to the Aftermath and Alphabet Squadron trilogies and The Battle of Jakku and Shattered Empire comics, so we’ll see how it smushes in during that timeframe!

After the events of Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa train together in the ways of the Jedi. The siblings must confront the legacies of their birth parents Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, and their own diverging futures in the Force.
The second Death Star is in ruins. As the burgeoning New Republic pursues scattered Imperial forces across the galaxy, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa train on the remote planet of Ajan Kloss and walk the path of the Jedi side-by-side.

Despite their doubts, Luke and Leia volunteer for an urgent covert New Republic mission to infiltrate the center of Imperial power: Coruscant.
Their quest begins at the Imperial palace, once the Jedi Temple, where they gain a new understanding of the former Jedi Order and Galactic Republic. The mission will be more transformative than either could imagine, as they discover the legacy left behind by their birth parents on a planet where some are still willing to hope. And though certainty is scarce, Luke and Leia’s faith in one another will help them each seek out the path they must ultimately walk.

Holy hells, just when one would think their training was all boring and full of sibling jokes. But hey, even if it had been just sibling jokes, I’d be in! Plus, it seems like Revis is promising plenty of their sibling banter, because while they are on Ajan Kloss together, there’s no audience they need to be a general or Jedi Master for, just each other, just siblings. Every little glimpse of them together in the years following Return of the Jedi has been a blessing, so a full book about them getting to know one another better, exploring their family’s past and what their futures should be, sounds absolutely exciting.
Extra bonus is Revis got to come up with where Leia gets her kyber (the Kyber Arch in the Temple?! Or Jocasta Nu’s workshop? Or Palpatine’s hidden areas??) and show her building her saber, while we’ll get to see Luke dealing with the compass he acquired in Battlefront II! And lastly we have two videos: first up is Revis, who taped one for the panel, as she wasn’t there, detailing her excitement about the book! Second from editor Gabriella Munoz about the conflicts Luke and Leia have about their family’s past.
Elsewhere, Madeleine Roux and Ashley Poston spoke more about their books, Legacy and Eyes Like Stars! Speaking of the latter, I’m finally finished with Eyes like Stars and should have a review soon. Otherwise, Michael Siglain has promised more of the genre initiative is on the way, and right now we know about Hiding From the Dark by Kiersten White which is out September 1, so hopefully we’ll get more announcements soon!
Remember the Reign of the Empire trilogy? After the first excellent, timely entry, the hype has been high for Rebecca Roanhorse’s book 2, Edge of the Abyss. One new thing we learned from the panels today is that a character from Galaxy of Heroes, a mobile game that recently revealed it was adding characters like Darth Jar Jar, Jaxxon, and Mara Jade Skywalker to its roster but is known to be a time/money/life sink not really worth it, would make an appearance in the book: Fennro Drogan. As for why, it’s revealed he’s Ghorman and the book will visit their planet, which is set prior to the start of Andor‘s first season, so, you know, the whole genocide thing hasn’t quite happened yet. Curious to see what’s the size of Drogan’s role and what Roanhorse plans to do with Ghorman around this timeframe. Ahead of its September 15 release, you can check out the first excerpt, a touching scene between Bail Organa and a teenaged Princess Leia, and then be sure to return to the Manor for our review ahead of its release!
Other book things announced, quick hits: The original trilogy novelizations will have unabridged audiobook editions narrated by Marc Thompson, releasing February 2, 20027; DK Publishing is releasing Star Wars: A Celebration by Pablo Hidalgo and Anthony Breznican, one of many 50th Anniversary bits of content we can expect.
COMICS:
Before we jump into the news, let’s talk about what’s missing: Dark Horse. Since Mad Cave Studios obtaining the Star Wars license was first announced, I just assumed Dark Horse and Mad Cave would co-exist in the all-ages realm. Yet it looks more and more likely, just like when Dark Horse first joined and IDW was dropped, Dark Horse is going away and Mad Cave is here to stay. Maybe they’ll just keep rotating the all-ages license every few years? Because beyond the final issues of The High Republic Adventures: Pathfinders, the potential and hopeful release of Hyperspace Stories: Mace, and a trade paperback of Hyperspace Stories: The Bad Batch – Rogue Agents, the publisher is basically not being mentioned at all. Was it the delays? Is it the price of the license? The cost of lower sales across comics? Money focused decisions by big corporations like Disney? We may never know and maybe I’m wrong, but it’s hard not to think the era of Dark Horse’s return is over. Which is a shame, as I like what they had been putting out and Mad Cave’s Papercutz imprint seems to be an even younger skewing line of tales than all-ages can be, so it’s either adult from Marvel and middle-grade from Mad Cave going forward. And it’s an even bigger shame because there’s a Dark Horse title first revealed to me almost a year ago that, had it ever been announced, would’ve been one helluva moment and it appears it’s been lost to time and space (and no, I will not tell what it was, just in case, but ugh, does it make me sad…guess I’ll just have the cover to stare at for eternity).
Anyways, speaking of Mad Cave, they had some new reveals up their sleeves! For starters, there’s X-Wing Academy, a “Hogwarts”-esque school for pilots, that takes place prior to The Force Awakens, and will be written by Scott Peterson and Joshua Pruett (minds behind Phineas and Ferb, which is important again in a moment), with Craig Rousseau for illustrations. They showed off a glimpse of character concept art, first the group of heroes, Blu, Odub, engineer Zatch, and Loodee, who is of course a Pooba aka Nubs’ species from Young Jedi Adventures! And second, the villain is some type of beast known as Koff and I guess the panelists coughed when they announced it (nice). It’s out 2027!
Mad Cave also announced a Star Wars and Phineas and Ferb crossover graphic novel, also for 2027. I watched one of the Star Wars specials once, it was pretty fun, but never quite got into the series, but it’s a neat thing that can bring in a lot of different readers! They didn’t stop there, as they already have Delilah S. Dawson’s next one-shot in the books, as it’s The Mandalorian and Grogu: Nightmare on Nevarro, set to be out by October 2026! Given the first of Dawson’s Mando/Grogu original stories just dropped the week of the panel, (The Mandalorian and Grogu: Danger in the Dark) this is an interesting surprise! Does this mean, with no Dark Horse, this might be our brand new horror-themed fun for the year, sans Cavan Scott for the first time in…ever?! But wait, there’s more, as Mad Cave also showed off Star Wars: A New Hope – Triple Take, attempting to land a February 2027 release, which will be a retelling of A New Hope, of course. It’s written by Kim Shearer and Chas! Pangburn.
As for Marvel? There was a new cover of The Fall of Kylo Ren‘s third issue, out in October, and some previews for stuff we already know about like The Book of Boba Fett adaptation, but that’s about it. Nothing new, Star Wars-wise, which is disappointing given how quiet the comics have been as a whole this year, especially the once mighty Marvel. Maybe they’re getting everything all worked out after the recent change up in leadership and moving HQ? I suspect we’ll get something by NYCC to hype up their plans for the 50th Anniversary and relaunches in 2027.
But Marvel did show off a Lucasfilm Publishing collab that was a very pleasant surprise: they’re teaming up with Jason Aaron again to relaunch a property for a new era of comics…this time, it’s Indiana Jones!!! That’s right, Indiana Jones and the Sword of Pandemonium, with art by Aaron Kuder, is a 5-issue limited series that’s just the tip of the iceberg for new stories of the archaeologist! I won’t be reviewing it for the Manor, but I’ll be reading it eventually. It’s out in December and here’s Aaron’s rundown of the series:
“This is the Indy of Raiders of the Lost Ark, fresh off his harrowing experience on the island of Geheimhaven. Dark events were set in motion that day, strange new enemies have risen from the shadows, and for Indy and Marion Ravenwood the globe-trotting, punching, whip-cracking, and death-defying escapades, not to mention the archaeology, have just begun.”
The High Republic:
And what about the era we’ve all come to know and love, The High Republic? Well…we got the ever eternal promise it’s not going anywhere! But…it’s been awhile since we’ve had a proper announcement of something new in the era. There were theories Twin Crossroads was going to be a Mae/Osha book that’s a sequel to The Acolyte book, since there most likely won’t be a season two (we love our hopium here at the Manor), but that didn’t come to fruition. So…what’s next for Phase More?! I hope we get to learn about something sooner than later! Could we get a Reath Silas/Azlin Rell book? The Broken Blade comic, finally? Seeing the young Firebrands together? More about Barnabas Vim and his time on Planet X? Well…we’re waiting, Siglain!!
NYCC is now less than three months away and announcements typically come then too, so maybe we’ll get more about 2027’s plans, especially comics or new High Republic content, then!!
