Another year goes by and another one begins, one usually filled with a bunch of fun and interesting Star Wars Comics, but 2026 isn’t looking so bright. On Marvel’s end, there are only three to enjoy, and (maybe) two of those are finales, while for Dark Horse, as long as there are no delays, there are two issues to read and one is a finale. Look, I wanted a bit less after the overload of crossovers for the last five years, but guess I need to be careful what I wish for. Head below to see what’s coming in Star Wars comics’ January 2026 solicitations.
I will do a different article about all this, and it’ll likely be in my annual comics year-in-review post but I’m sure I’ll share more thoughts in my Doctor Aphra: Chaos Agent #5 review out next week, but wow, does it feel like Marvel is being stingy because they bungled its big 10th Anniversary relaunch! As much as I hoped and hoped that Doctor Aphra: Chaos Agent would get its 10 issues, it seems it could’ve been quietly cancelled at this point, my hope fading faster than I’d like (but I’ll always have hope!). No new issue for Jedi Knights might signal much the same fate for said series. Legacy of Vader could end with its twelfth issue. And for sure the Hunt for the Falcon is over. Will Star Wars (2025) last beyond a 10 issue or is over too? Are we in a new era of 10-issue series (or less) with relaunches constantly? While we learned Marvel was supposedly waiting on issue #5 sales to determine a series’ fate this year, it seems like Aphra didn’t even get so lucky to wait until then, but just maybe it did, if they took a break to thankfully accommodate Cherish Chen and welcoming a new addition to the family! Or did the sales not meet expectations that early? As for who to blame regarding sales, it’s not readers and not creatives, especially for the Aphra series, instead I’d point it right at the Marvel editors, ones who handed down mandates and restrictions to their writers, like to ditch Aphra’s supporting cast and focus on “familiar” faces to start or how Marvel can’t even be bothered to mention updates regarding a series’ fate. All this does is create uncertainty and why would I, or especially causal readers, ever want to get into a Star Wars comic if they can’t even get 10 issues when being labeled an on-going, or even receive news updates if there will be more or not?? Look, Dark Horse suffers from delays and has largely been miniseries focused since the end of The High Republic proper, but there’s never been such uncertainty. Happy 10th anniversary, I guess? Anyways, enough of this for now, more on it later in future articles.

Han Solo: Hunt for the Falcon #5 (on sale 1/7)

As I wrote in my review of the miniseries’ opening issue, I hope Hunt for the Falcon can balance in touches of Han’s life during this era, given his fate coming up shortly after this series’ story ends, and this solicit for the finale, plus a little flashback scene in issue #2, makes it seem like it’ll be top of mind throughout, even if it’s not the full focus. My review should hit sometime after this issue drops in Janaury, especially since there’s not a lot of other comics to worry about.
Legacy of Vader #12 (on sale 1/14)

KYLO REN REACHES THE DARKEST DEPTHS OF HIS JOURNEY!

- Will the young tyrant be able to move beyond the shadow of his grandfather? Or will he be imprisoned within the LEGACY OF VADER?
Nowhere does this solicit say finale, though it’s not like Marvel or anyone is telling us beforehand anymore, but the overall sense of this is the series could easily end here. Of all the writers they’d let continue cooking, Soule would be it, but he also got the most issues of this era (so far) and feels like he has a clear end-point, if this is all he gets, anyways. Regardless, it sounds like things get truly wild in the depths of Vader’s Castle and I think this should be a memorable ending for this storyline and/or series, but it would then mean we wouldn’t get any follow-up, for now, on the Tava Ren storyline. Guess only time will tell, not Marvel, of what may or may not come next.

THE END FOR THE NEW REPUBLIC?!
- LUKE, LEIA, HAN and VALANCE struggle to reunite and help their Nagai allies fight for freedom!
- A shocking death as a hero falls at the hands of the ZANTARRK STORMTROOPERS!
- A villain’s desperate, final gamble puts everything the NEW REPUBLIC stands for in peril!
- Can an ancient JEDI RELIC rescue our heroes from certain death — or doom them?
There’s at least one more issue of this run, but after what should read as such a big conflict (we’ll see), could this really just end and they pick up another new Star Wars run? Maybe? Guess we’ll find out, someday. Anyways, the hero who dies better NOT be Rynn, as oh boy, the fridging complaints will be off the stratosphere, so I would like to think they’ll avoid that and it’s just Agent Bastion or Kith Alaytia, but doing so will only compound the recent problems with Jedi Knights #8 killing off two brand-new characters who have little characterization and happen to be either people-of-color or marginalized characters, so I’m not looking forward to anyone dying at this point. As for the Jedi relic, there was no way this Crown of Verity, which allows the wearer to sense lies and only speak truth, wasn’t going to play into this story, but will it be set up enough to read as a commentary on the spread of misinformation or just feel like a MacGuffin?

Hyperspace Stories – Tides of Terror #4 (on sale 1/7)

{Previously solicited in December}: Hoping this lands when it does, as this series has had some delays as of late, since I’d like to see Kit Fisto fans a chance to rejoice with their favorite front and center across this four-issue miniseries. I’ll be checking in with a review around now, if that’s when it manages to hit shelves!

Just like the first series, no review from me until this is all out (though if you want to cover the series, visit our Submissions page to reach out!), but I’m interested to learn who this old friend is! I’m curious if these two do well enough if they’ll eventually start covering some of the storylines originally pitched for the Bad Batch in The Clone Wars show, like their time on Kashyyyk?! The fact we’re getting a second series for them does make it seem like the odds are in their favor for more.
