Canon Comic Review: The High Republic #1
– Spoiler Review –
After nearly a year of waiting, The High Republic initiative begins! After the opening salvo of the first two novels, Marvel introduces their on-going story to the unfolding era with The High Republic #1! Written by Cavan Scott, with an art team of Ario Anindito, Mark Morales, Annalisa Leoni, and Ariana Maher, The High Republic on-going comic picks up towards the end of events from Light of the Jedi, focusing on Padawan Keeve Trennis’ Jedi Knight Trials and her relationship with Trandoshan Master Sskeer. Both are rewarding and interesting characters to get to know in this opening chapter, while the art absolutely stuns due to its detail heavy work, all which promises an excellent and thrilling series ahead! Star Wars Comics March 2021 Solicitations
It’s crazy to think March means it’s been one year since the COVID-19 pandemic’s threat was beginning to become clear and lockdowns began, though they ended far too shortly. Star Wars comics took a break shortly after, the lockdowns affecting shipping and setting the industry back by months, but they’ve been arriving in a steady stream once distribution began again. In March of 2021, the Star Wars comics solicitations offer plenty of content to look forward to, from Leia Organa and Kes Dameron swapping love stories, spooky shenanigans in The High Republic era, Aphra and Sana overcoming their differences potentially, the return of the Crimson Corsair, and more so head below to check them out! Star Wars Comics February 2021 Solicitations
February was one of the last normal months for comics last year, as the pandemic halted many things as it swept through the nation, and while it still rages, in some cases worse than it was earlier in the year, it looks like comics won’t be stopping again anytime soon. However, February is a quieter month for Star Wars comics, as Doctor Aphra takes a month-long break, but otherwise the adventures of Starlight Squadron, with Wedge Antilles and Shara Bey in charge, continue, as does the earliest issues of Marvel and IDW’s entries in The High Republic initiative! Head below for the February 2021 Star Wars comics solicitations! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics February 2021 Solicitations”
The High Republic News: Extended Light of the Jedi Excerpt, IDW’s The High Republic Adventures Preview, Plus New Interview with Cavan Scott
January is fast approaching, even if it felt like it never would due to this insane year, which means The High Republic’s launch is nigh! To keep the hype train going, Penguin Random House and Del Rey were kind enough to release the first 8, yes EIGHT!, chapters from the initiative’s opening novel, Light of the Jedi, written by Charles Soule. The extended excerpt deals with one of the initial crises due to the destruction of a ship in lightspeed (the Great Hyperspace Disaster), giving us a glimpse at the Jedi and the Republic of the era. Also, the official site has dropped our first look at IDW’s The High Republic Adventures, which sees Yoda training new Padawans while dealing with the growing crisis, plus Cavan Scott, writer of the upcoming Marvel on-going comic The High Republic, offered an in-depth interview about the initiative as a whole and his series. Find my thoughts on the excerpt, the glimpse at IDW’s comic, and some details from the interview below! (Update: THR has begun and our reviews are rolling in!) Star Wars Comics January 2021 Solicitations
The idea of 2021 finally being here has likely been the wish of many people, and while it won’t completely turn around everything that’s transpired in 2020, it’s a beacon of hope that maybe things can start to get better. NYCC 2020: The High Republic Panel Reveals More Books Coming Summer 2021!
Conventions and their panels can thankfully still happen virtually, so Lucasfilm provided The High Republic with its own NYCC 2020 panel to tease what’s about to release and reveal even more stories yet to come! Summer 2021 will see THR‘s story continue in three new novels, yet untitled: Cavan Scott will write an adult novel from Del Rey, Justina Ireland will write the next YA novel for Disney-Lucasfilm Press, and Daniel José Older will pen the middle grade novel, also from DLF. And while THR launches properly in January, you can get your first taste of the era in December thanks to Titan when they bring back serialized stories to Star Wars Insider with a story penned by Charles Soule! Head below for some of the teases from the authors in the short panel and the pages for Marvel’s The High Republic seen in the video…or watch it all above! (Update: THR has begun and our reviews are rolling in!) Continue reading “NYCC 2020: The High Republic Panel Reveals More Books Coming Summer 2021!”
Marvel’s The High Republic Comic Series Previewed
With the novels getting much of the spotlight in the build-up to the January 2021 release of The High Republic publishing initiative, it’s about time the comics shared in the hype! The official site’s blog hosted a preview of the first issue of Marvel’s The High Republic on-going comic, written by Cavan Scott, pencils by Ario Anindito, inks by Mark Morales, and a cover from Phil Noto. In it, we’re introduced to Keeve Trennis, her Master Sskeer, and a funny connection from a comic released in 2015. Comics have become a giant part of my fandom and this small tease is enough to take my excitement for the High Republic initiative to a whole new level. Head below for some more thoughts and a look at the preview! (Update: THR has begun and our reviews are rolling in!) Continue reading “Marvel’s The High Republic Comic Series Previewed”
