Star Wars Comics October 2018 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics October 2018 Solicitations

At first glance, October’s comics might look a little slim, but that’s only because Marvel is having one of it’s quietest months since launching. But IDW is here to pick up the slack, and with one helluva offering: a horror-anthology called Tales from Vader’s Castle. So head below to see why I about jumped out of my skin when I saw Aphra‘s latest cover, a cool connection Charles Soule is making between two of his series, and what spooks are ahead from Vader’s Castle! via Lucasfilm

It’s been quiet on the new novel and comic fronts for quite some time, especially once it was revealed 3 comics would be ending in September and the only known novels were Thrawn: Alliances and the Solo adaptation. But SDCC 2018’s publishing panel was a Hutt’s feast of new announcements, from a LONG overdue Padmé novel, Queen’s Shadow, a Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon novel from lauded author Claudia Gray, while Marvel has a new maxiseries focusing on heroes and villains from across the saga, IDW brings the scares for October with Tales from Vader’s Castle, and more! Head below for all the exciting details! Continue reading “SDCC 2018: Padmé, Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon Novels, “Age of…” Comics Maxiseries, and More Announced! (UPDATED)”

Star Wars Comics July 2018 Solicitations

Star Wars Comics July 2018 Solicitations

I haven’t been covering the monthly solicitations for Marvel’s (or IDW’s) upcoming comics, but I’ve decided to start doing so because not only do I look forward to the teases they bring for upcoming stories, but it’s for your convenience of not having to go far to find them if you’re already on the Manor! Seeing as these go out three months, today’s batch of solicitations of Star Wars comics covers issues dropping in July. Head on below to see what’s in store for Doctor AphraPoe DameronDarth Vader – Dark Lord of the Sith, and more! (I’ll update the article when IDW’s solicitations release, which seem to be a few days after Marvel’s Updated!) Continue reading “Star Wars Comics July 2018 Solicitations”

Comic News: Kieron Gillen Takes Over Star Wars Series, Dr. Aphra Figure First Look, Thrawn Comic Adaptation Announced

Writer Jason Aaron, who has been the shepherd of the Star Wars mainline series since day one, will be stepping down and replaced by none other than Kieron Gillen (Darth VaderDoctor Aphra) himself, starting issue #38 later this year (first uncovered by the greatest sleuth of the internet, Florian of Jedi-Bibliothek). And over the weekend at SDCC 2017, not only was the fan-voted Doctor Aphra action-figure shown off, an adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn novel was announced. Details are below on Gillen’s start of Star Wars, pictures of the Aphra figure, and some thoughts on what I believe to be a shrug-worthy idea in adapting Thrawn. Canon Comic Review: Darth Maul #5

Darth Maul #5

– Spoiler Review –

The Darth Maul comic closes out its run with issue #5, and as surprisingly good as the series got over its short run, plus as entertaining and exciting of a new character as Jedi Padawan Eldra became, it comes to an all too predictable, safe end that keeps it from greatness. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Darth Maul #5”

Canon Comic Review: Darth Maul #4

Darth Maul #4

– Spoiler Review –

While the verdict is still out if this latest of Darth Maul comics is a must-read, as there’s still one issue left, issue #4 makes another strong case for itself due to providing even more reasons to adore, root for, and be afraid for the likely doomed Jedi Padawan Eldra Kaitis. Canon Comic Review: Darth Maul #3

Darth Maul #3

– Spoiler Review –

I had my initial reservation about this mini-series, but by the end of issue #3, I can honestly say Darth Maul has turned out to be an enjoyable experience especially thanks to its colorful cast of underworld characters. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Darth Maul #3”

Canon Comic Review: Darth Maul #2

Darth Maul #2

– Spoiler Review –

The first issue certainly had me split in halves (see what I did there) over whether or not to continue reading the series, but Darth Maul issue #2 introduces some old, dearly missed faces and contains a surprising flashback that have me actually excited for more. Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Darth Maul #2”

Canon Comic Review: Darth Maul #1

Darth Maul #1

– Spoiler Review –

The renewed focus on Darth Maul might have come a decade after his overly memorable introduction (and quick execution) in The Phantom Menace, but he’s proven himself to be a multi-dimensional character ever since, arguably the biggest reason for his continued existence to be worthwhile. While a lot of eyes might be focusing on the upcoming outcome of his big showdown with an old foe in season 3 of Star Wars Rebels, Marvel takes us back before it all started with the second Maul-led comic series, simply titled Darth Maul. In the end, neither issue #1’s portrayal of the younger, feral Maul nor its copious set-up make me want to recommend going out and buying this right away, though the potential for this series to be something more is hiding beneath the surface, just like the Sith themselves. Darth Maul Comic Series Set to Unleash the Sith in February 2017

Darth Maul Comic Series LogoYou cut a guy in half and you’d think that’d be the end of it, but if Darth Maul has proven anything over the past 7 years, it’ll take a helluva lot more to put him down. While we’re currently exploring his extended fate in Star Wars Rebels’ 3rd season, next year we’ll be treated to a comic series exploring his past pre-The Phantom Menace. While there isn’t enough information yet for me to really feel one way or another regarding Darth Maul, check out the details released so far below the cut.
