More and more of the upcoming Star Wars comic releases become clear as companies reshuffle their schedules in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic related closures. We got updated June and July 2020 solicitations earlier this week, and now plans for August are becoming clear: many of the issues meant originally for May will be released, though there’s one big omission for the moment: The High Republic comics meant to premiere alongside the rest of the initiative in August. There’s no update at this time if they’ll still release then or a little later, but we’ll update you as soon as we hear more (UPDATE 5/26: High Republic was moved to January), though in the meantime head below to see which comics, like Aphra, Vader, and the latest Star Wars, will hit in August! Updated Star Wars Comics June/July 2020 Solicitations
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world in many different and unpredictable ways, and the entertainment industry has been in flux ever since. Comics stopped shipping for the most part in early April after Diamond Comics stopped distribution, but they have since begun shipping once again, with new comics hitting open comic shops for the first time on May 20. The upcoming schedule of comics has drastically changed, so the previously promised Star Wars comics have shifted in a big way. Marvel and IDW have begun to reveal their updated schedules (via Florian of Jedi-Bibliothek), so we’ve included the new list for the issues out in June and July 2020 below! Star Wars Comics June 2020 Solicitations (UPDATED)
These are uncertain and often frightening times and I want to take a moment before we hop into the future of June’s Star Wars comics to wish everyone well and hope everyone is taking the necessary precautions to stay safe. One of the few certainties left are the release of both the solicitations for upcoming comics and the continued release of comics as well, and today we have a look at June’s coming stories, as Doctor Aphra fights for her life against an ancient curse (so a normal Wednesday), Vader’s efforts to uncover who hid Padmé from him takes him to unexpected places, Boba Fett and Valance do battle, and more!
UPDATE 5/2/20: Diamond comics stopped shipping product in April, but it will resume shipping in late May, with a far reduced schedule for all comics, including Star Wars comics. The only new issue out in June will be Bounty Hunters #3, originally scheduled for April. You can still look at would’ve been below, but we’ll have any and all new solicitations on the Manor once they’re released! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics June 2020 Solicitations (UPDATED)”
Canon Comic Review: Bounty Hunters #1
– Spoiler Review –
A new on-going series arrives with Bounty Hunters #1, taking us deep into the seedy criminal underbelly of the Star Wars galaxy, which follows a group of bounty hunters dealing with the repercussion of a botched mission several years before. I’ve had reservations about this series since it was announced, and while issue #1 doesn’t fully upend my feelings, it takes a big step in the right direction. Star Wars Comics May 2020 Solicitations (UPDATED)
May sees the 40th Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back and it’s only fitting all the comics right now are focused on honoring the film’s legacy by directly dealing with the fallout of the film’s events: Luke Skywalker finds himself in the possession of a yellow lightsaber, Aphra’s new tomb raiding adventures sound even crazier and more exciting than before, and Vader also does some tomb raiding of his own…venturing into Padmé’s!?! Peer into May’s Star Wars comics solicitations! UPDATE: IDW has since dropped their solicits and it seems Star Wars Adventures will relaunch in May! The solicitation text seems to suggest the relaunch will be full of tales set AFTER The Rise of Skywalker, but the fine folks at Jedi Bibliothek have tempered expectations by mentioning the solicit is outdated. UPDATE 2: The updated solicit has arrived and IDW relaunches with a story between The Last Jedi and TROS, not after the Skywalker Saga finale…check it out below! UPDATE 3: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, comics stopped shipping in April and publishers aren’t releasing digital copies until physical copies can make it to store shelves. Because of the current halt in shipping, Marvel has already stated their pausing work on/releasing a third of their May and June comics, without any clear plan yet on how to release the currently effected issues and those they are pausing. We’ll update as soon as we know more! UPDATE 4 (5/2/20): The only Star Wars comics out in May will be Doctor Aphra #1 (Vol. 1) and The Clone Wars – Battle Tales from IDW, per the new reduced schedule as Diamond begins shipping comics again. You can still look at would’ve been below, but we’ll have any and all new solicitations on the Manor once they’re released! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics May 2020 Solicitations (UPDATED)”
Star Wars Comics April 2020 Solicitations (UPDATED)
Forget April showers, April 2020 Star Wars comics bring us something far better, like the return of the Doctor Aphra series, IDW’s The Clone Wars miniseries, and Vader teaming up with…one of Padme’s handmaidens?! These story threads will definitely lead to bountiful May tales, that I can guarantee!
UPDATE: Due to the growing pandemic, comic distributor Diamond Comics has halted shipping starting in April. Marvel won’t be releasing issues digitally and IDW certainly won’t unless it’s on a store shelf, so it’s very much up in the air when these comics will end up seeing the light of day. It’s an unfortunate, but understandable move and I’m sure all these series, including the Aphra relaunch and Battle Tales miniseries, will be more than worth the wait! UPDATE 2: Battle Tales is tentatively out in June now instead, per the always trusty Florian of Jedi-Bibliothek. UPDATE #3 (5/3/20): With Diamond comics resuming shipping in late May, we’ll see only 3 of the below issues out before the end of June: The Clone Wars – Battle Tales #1 on May 20, Doctor Aphra #1 (Vol. 2) on May 27, and Bounty Hunters #3 on June 24, with the rest of April and beyond’s comics releasing at unknown times. We’ll have updates on the Manor as soon as we learn more! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics April 2020 Solicitations (UPDATED)”
Star Wars Comics March 2020 Solicitations
I’m posting these March 2020 Star Wars comics solicitations a few days late because these kind of snuck up on me, though I’m not quite sure how, between a couple comic issues, a new The Mandalorian, and some little film called The Rise of Skywalker all coming out really, really close to one another; I won’t let it happen again, though (until maybe 2022 when the next film comes out). March will see the release of TROS‘ novelization and the end of the already epic The Rise of Kylo Ren mini, fitting if you’ve seen the film, while we’re set to be introduced to a new series called Bounty Hunters, while the third volume of Darth Vader might find him running into a surviving handmaiden of a certain important woman from his past. Read on to find out what’s all ahead! Continue reading “Star Wars Comics March 2020 Solicitations”
Canon Comic Review: Empire Ascendant #1

As December 2019 comes to an end, it doesn’t just signal the end of the decade or the end of the Skywalker Saga, it also brings the first phase of Marvel’s various Star Wars comics to an end, which is where Empire Ascendant #1 comes in, a coda for what came before and a slight tease of what’s to come in 2020.
