Marvel Star Wars Panel Impressions (SWCO 2017)

The Screaming Citadel CoversConsidering the news of the Captain Phasma miniseries dropped in a different panel, Marvel’s panel was light on news but showed off some interior art for some upcoming issues and there were fun chats with creatives and editors alike. The most interesting thing to come out of the panel is that us in attendance might of sort of convinced the Marvel powers that be to make an Ahsoka series? Details below!

Doctor Aphra and Star Wars Comics Star in Marvel’s The Screaming Citadel Crossover

The Screaming Citadel AnnouncementWhen I first saw the announcement, I thought it was a joke, as The Screaming Citadel sounds like something out of a campy horror B-movie. Thankfully it wasn’t though, as it sounds like Marvel’s next crossover (the first being Vader Down) looks to embrace the title’s tone and give us a gothic-horror story set in the Star Wars universe. Even better, it’s a crossover of the mainline Star Wars series with my absolute favorite comic character to date, Doctor Aphra! Annual’s are kind of like a box of chocolates, which we all understand means we don’t know what we’ll get when we open them. Star Wars Annual #2 therefore is like pulling your favorite candy out of said box, as it’s truly a pleasant surprise thanks to the introduction of a great new character, a much appreciated look at those who are stuck in the middle of the Rebellion and Empire’s fight, and a true deep-dive into Leia’s mindset post-the-destruction-of-Alderaan. Annual #2 is written by Kelly Thompson, art by Emilio Laiso, and colors by Rachelle Rosenberg, who all do an exceptional job bringing their own unique touches to the Star Wars universe.  Continue reading “Canon Comic Review: Star Wars Annual #2” →

Canon Comic Review: Star Wars #25

With Star Wars issue #25, “The Last Flight of the Harbinger”  comes to an end, and even if it’s a snappy, action-packed issue, it’s not enough to save this arc from being one of the series’ first disappointing ones. However I did find something else to enjoy about this issue: there’s a bonus one-shot story made in honor of Kenny Baker, the actor who brought R2-D2 to life for so many years.
