Star Wars Rebels Review: “The Mystery of Chopper Base”

The Mystery of Chopper Base

Spoiler Review –

“The Mystery of Chopper Base” is the penultimate episode of Star Wars Rebels‘ second season. It continues in the season’s fashion of staying character-focused and doesn’t worry itself about setting up events for the finale, instead raising the emotional stakes involved for everyone (and the viewers). The episode handles that aspect expertly by cranking up the foreshadowing and making viewers contemplate heartbreaking thoughts on how the crew may never be the same after the finale, which I’m not so sure I’m ready for now. Star Wars Rebels Review: “The Forgotten Droid”

The Forgotten Droid

Spoiler Review –

At first glance, a Chopper-centric episode seems like something one could probably write off or feel okay with missing as we near the end of the season. But Star Wars Rebels has proven time and time again its focus on character is not to be missed, as that focus has given us wondrous moments with the ensemble cast of the show and “The Forgotten Droid” is no different. Heartening, funny, and sprinkled with season long plot hints, like how the Inquisitors might be tracking their band of rebels and possibly ending the search for a base, Rebels‘ latest is another entertaining episode. Star Wars Rebels Review: “Shroud of Darkness”

Shroud of Darkness

Spoiler Review –

In Star Wars Rebels‘ “Shroud of Darkness,” Kanan, Ezra, and Ahsoka must face the fears that plague them, prompting them to return to the Lothal Jedi Temple for help and guidance. Their time in the Temple, and some of the surprising answers they receive, sets up a great finale (to air in a few weeks) and cements this episode as the best of the series to date. My deep dive i.e. long review is below. Continue reading “Star Wars Rebels Review: “Shroud of Darkness””

Star Wars Rebels Review: “The Honorable Ones”

The Honorable Ones

Spoiler Review –

In Star Wars Rebels‘ latest, “The Honorable Ones,” Zeb and Agent Kallus must put aside their differences and pasts to survive a dangerous situation together. It ends up being a fantastic follow-up to Zeb’s “Legends of the Lasat” episode and provides some surprisingly good character development for Kallus. Continue reading “Star Wars Rebels Review: “The Honorable Ones””

Star Wars Rebels Review: “Homecoming”

Homecoming

Spoiler Review –

The first Hera-centric episode of the season, “Wings of the Master” is among the earliest standouts, giving fans a look into her skills and desire for being a pilot. In “Homecoming,” Star Wars Rebels makes things way more personal for Captain Syndulla, as she faces the past she has so carefully stayed away from: her father, Cham Syndulla. In doing so, it becomes one of the show’s best and certainly among the season’s best. Continue reading “Star Wars Rebels Review: “Homecoming””

Star Wars Rebels Review: “The Call”

The Call

Spoiler Review –

The Space Whales Purrgil invade Star Wars Rebels‘ “The Call,” an episode which looks into one of the strange corners of the Star Wars universe and displays Ezra’s increasingly intuitive ability to connect with creatures through the Force. Continue reading “Star Wars Rebels Review: “The Call””

Star Wars Rebels Review: “Legends of the Lasat”

Legends of the Lasat

Spoiler Review –

Star Wars Rebels finally gives Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios his due with the unique Lasat culture, striking visuals, one of Kevin Kiner’s best original tracks for the show to date, and Steve Blum some room to shine in an enduring oddball of an episode titled, “Legends of the Lasat.” Continue reading “Star Wars Rebels Review: “Legends of the Lasat””

Star Wars Rebels Review: “The Protector of Concord Dawn”

The Protector of Concord Dawn

Spoiler Review –

The first Sabine-centric episode, “Blood Sisters,” quickly became one of my favorite episodes of the series, so Star Wars Rebels‘ latest, “The Protector of Concord Dawn,” had a lot to live up to by focusing on her again. “Protector” might not beat out “Blood Sisters,” but it comes awfully close, which is saying quite a bit. Star Wars Rebels Review: “A Princess on Lothal”

A Princess on Lothal

Spoiler Review –

Star Wars Rebels Season 2 returns with “A Princess on Lothal,” an episode set shortly after the heartfelt midseason finale, “Legacy.” The Princess referred to in the title is none other than Leia, who has come on Bail Organa’s behalf to bring more ships to the battered Phoenix Squadron. While not as emotional as “Legacy,” “Princess” brings back the humor, action, a strong use of the entire crew, and also helps Ezra move on from the revelation about his parents. Star Wars Rebels Review: “Legacy”

Star Wars Rebels Legacy

Spoiler Review –

Star Wars Rebels‘ mid-season finale, “Legacy,” is an interesting episode: it’s certainly more introspective and emotional than most finales on TV these days, but it has some tonal inconsistencies as it wraps up the hanging story thread regarding Ezra’s parents and deals with diminishing the Rebellion’s sense of safety as the Empire forces them to flee yet another base.
