Updated Star Wars Comics June and July 2020 Solicitations

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world in many different and unpredictable ways, and the entertainment industry has been in flux ever since. Comics stopped shipping for the most part in early April after Diamond Comics stopped distribution, but they have since begun shipping once again, with new comics hitting open comic shops for the first time on May 20. The upcoming schedule of comics has drastically changed, so the previously promised Star Wars comics have shifted in a big way. Marvel and IDW have begun to reveal their updated schedules (via Florian of Jedi-Bibliothek), so we’ve included the new list for the issues out in June and July 2020 below! Star Wars Comics Return at the End of May! (UPDATED)

Doctor Aphra and Battle Tales Comic UpdatesThe COVID-19 pandemic has changed the entertainment landscape in plenty of unpredictable ways and what the new normal will be once it’s all over is too far away and too fluid to ever truly guess. The comics industry at large took a big hit when Diamond Comics, the biggest shipper for the industry, announced it would be shutting down operations in the beginning of April. While the pandemic is nowhere near its end, the end of May still sees many states lifting Stay-At-Home orders to try bringing some sense of normalcy back to people’s lives, and Diamond Comics will be shipping product once again by May 20. With this return also means Star Wars comics, which have been on hold since the beginning April, will begin hitting comic store shelves (those that will be open at least) and digital storefronts later this May as well! Both IDW and Marvel will be rolling out product, though the releases will be staggered for a while before production is ramped back up. We’ll see Doctor Aphra‘s relaunch (!!) and IDW’s The Clone Wars – Battle Tales before May ends, but the schedule remains slim for now. Head below the cut for more details on what’s coming! UPDATE 5/3/20: Doctor Aphra #1 will launch early on digital as a May the 4th present for fans! UPDATE 5/4/20: Read our review here! UPDATE 5/20/20: And here’s our review of the first Battle Tales! Interview: The Clone Wars – Battle Tales’ Michael Moreci Discusses the New Series!

Michael Moreci Clone Wars Battle Tales Interview

Star Wars Adventures: The Clone Wars – Battle Tales is an upcoming miniseries from IDW comics which sees many fan favorite clones, like Rex, Cody, and more, including a new one, swapping stories featuring other familiar characters like Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padmé, and even General Grievous. It’s similar in style to the Tales from/Return to Vader’s Castle miniseries, where each issue contains a new Battle Tale while advancing a larger framing story. We were lucky enough to speak with The Clone Wars – Battle Tales‘ writer, Michael Moreci, about what to expect from the miniseries as well as where it all came from, which you can read below in our latest interview!

Comic News: Doctor Aphra Vol. 2 Details Revealed, The Clone Wars Comic from IDW Announced

Doctor Aphra Vol 2 Details The Clone Wars Battle Tales Announced

Over at the official site, ahead of April 2020 Star Wars comics’ solicitations, Dan Brooks interviewed the scribe of the upcoming relaunch of Doctor Aphra, Alyssa Wong, revealing new details like a heavy Indiana Jones-esque plot and a whole host of new and intriguing characters. And at THR, IDW announced a 5-issue anthology miniseries, Star Wars Adventures: The Clone Wars – Battle Tales, where clones share war stories (UPDATE: Check out our interview with the series’ writer, Michael Moreci). Head below for more details on each!

UPDATE: Due to the growing pandemic, comic distributor Diamond Comics has halted shipping starting in April. Marvel won’t be releasing issues digitally and IDW certainly won’t unless it’s on a store shelf, so it’s very much up in the air when these comics will end up seeing the light of day. It’s an unfortunate, but understandable move. Battle Tales has a new tentative release for June, but no word on what Marvel is thinking for Aphra’s relaunch. I’ll update as soon as we learn! UPDATE 5/2/20: Battle Tales‘ first issue will hit May 20 and Aphra #1 will hit May 27! Continue reading “Comic News: Doctor Aphra Vol. 2 Details Revealed, The Clone Wars Comic from IDW Announced”
